I've tried to get people to put all the 'useless threads' into one (hence the Anyone Wanna Try To Make.... the longest thread ever? ).

Honestly, the useless threads aren't breaking any rules, even though they are annoying at times. I remember when this was an itty-bitty board, and I started a thread for a game. Well...it ended up at I blieve 112 pages!!! Of course, I quit posting after a while, cause it got boring. But some people enjoy being able to play word games, and these 'useless' threads really show people's personalities. It's a great way to get to know people, without getting into political arguments or having to be all serious all the time.

Not to sound rude, harsh, or anything like that, but you can keep track of the threads that you post in by subscribing to them. And when people post, it'll send you an email. Same thing with one of the functions on the board. I don't remember which one, but it exists.

What I'm trying to say is that tons of people come to phatmass, each for a different reason, and to say that these 'useless' threads should be gotten rid of is not fair to those who don't feel comfortable being ultra-serious. What's life if there's no silliness? I've got dial-up too, but I keep to the threads that I post on, and then look under my 'find all posts by member' and find the threads that way.

I'm not going to complain one way or another, but simply say, that Phatmass is a delicate tree, one that needs pruning, and care for. Be careful what you prune, cause if you prune too much, you'll kill the tree, and not enough you'll suffacate the tree.

If you feel that there's too many useless threads, then encourage people to stick to one or two threads that are useless; many useless threads are repeats. Personally, I think that the Anyone Wanna Try To Make.... the longest thread ever? thread would be a good thread to put all the silliness and uselessness on, but bear with people. Some are trying to work the kinks out.

My suggestion that those of you that think that they are too many useless threads and can't find the meaniful ones: track/subscribe to the ones that you prefer to see; and those of you who contribute to the spam: be courteous to those who feel drowned in all the spam, limit the threads to a few, combine threads, and stick all the silliness to the Anyone Wanna Try To Make.... the longest thread ever?. I think this could work out for everyone.

But that's just my two cents.

Excellent! I agree wholeheartedly - Phatmass is great at policing itself - keep dialoging like this, and we will all be a happy phamily.
We need to make a distinction by what we mean by a personal thread. The thread where Ash Wednesday telling about how her car died is a personal thread, but its the kind we want to read. Seeing pictures of Dani and Adrienne is a personal thread also, but again it has meat to it. Its hard to describe, but what we dislike are junk threads. No filling. Almost all threads are going to be somewhat personal in nature.
Ash Wednesday

I thought of something today, and this is just a courtesy thing --

When you have too many "personal threads" like the "so-and-so's own thread" and other threads that are really chatty like two way conversations, and filled with inside jokes -- this can be a bit off-putting to new members and people that don't post as often. This can leave people feeling like they're totally out of the loop, and don't know some big joke that everyone else is in on.

I've been on other boards where they didn't have "so-and-so's own thread" but something more like "Today is 'So-and-so' Day!" (I.E. "Today is Paladin Day!" or "Today is Ash Wednesday Day!") But it was a similar thing in excess. Needless to say I rarely post there anymore.

Nobody's breaking rules, but on the flip side, nobody wants a cliquey message board.

Yeah, you're right about that.
