Ash Wednesday
I think this thread is Okay, just kidding. I agree with your feelings about some of this, Paladin. The "[insert name here]'s thread" *really* get on my nerves and I find some of the stuff sophomoric. Though when I complained about that, of course, I got the "if you don't like them, don't read them, we think they're fun and you're just jealous" response. While I do follow advice and do not read them, it's hard to keep up with topics if you aren't on here all the time and you have a lot of pointless threads filling up the board. I don't mind a few pointless threads here and there, so long as they are clever and require just a little bit of thought and effort. I thought the binary thread was clever, or posting funny pictures can be entertaining, too. Personally I like what they do on slashdot.org -- they rate threads. It would be stellar if someone could view threads by rank, and users found more reward in posting quality responses as opposed to quantity. Of course that's perhaps where "church militant" and "church scholar" ranks come in. Obviously if we took ALL of the stupidness out, it wouldn't be as addictive. At the very least I can appreciate that users and moderators could and should, when need be, ask that others use some courtesy and discretion, because generally if you are spamming to up your post count, to most others it doesn't really come across as being all that clever or cool, and no "custom title status" will change that. All in all, I realize dUSt works very hard with this site, and there probably is no "magic board" with features that could please everybody. Okay, I'm done. *Crawls back into hole.*

marielapin
I am so sick of all the spam on open mic. So is my husband. That's one of the reasons we have not posted as much...we had to weed through all the carp to find the threads that actually have substance....sometimes we have to go as far back as eight pages! Sorry for the vent, but its been a long time coming.
Azriel
Got a suggestion for you ... I'm not much into the personal threads either ... but, if you aren't happy with the way the forum looks - how about starting threads with substance. Be part of the solution! Aloysius
i tried to warn everyone... anyway, go to "My Controls" i think it's under "Board Options" or somethin... it's possible.
Lil Red
when i first came on phatmass, it was a great place to hang out (still is). the threads weren't all serious, but they had substance to them. they had a point. (well, most of them) now, it seems like the threads with a point get ignored, or lost in the midst of all this "fun". birthday threads almost never get people posting on them anymore, news threads don't get paid attention to. truthfully, i don't almost never read the spam threads. especially when they are very long. and i stopped visiting the picture threads because they just deginerated into talking back and forth. (i was just guilty of that in my song thread, so i apologize). but, the more visitors we get to phatmass, the harder it's gonna be to be this integrated small-town feeling community. i'm still all for silliness, but some of the threads are taking it way too far. marielapin
I may be wrong, but I think there used to be a board for "wrinkly people". At the time we were still small so it wasn't necessary. But now that there are so many really young people on here, it would be nice to have a place where I can see all the threads with meat on them in one place. Azriel
Look guys this is the thing ... You are going to have to police yourselves. If you don't like the way Open Mic is heading, you need to change it. We can't ban personal threads ... that is carrying it way too far. As lil Red stated there needs to be a balance. Mods cannot just close personal threads - that isn't the way the phorum operates. If you don't like the way a thread is heading, step in and say something. If you close one personal thread, then that shuts down everyone. No one would be able to share any personal stuff, and that's not the way to go. Personally, I dig shamelessly braggin on Dani. We're phamily. If you don't like the way the phamily is phunctioning, say so, make new threads. Complain to your phamily members if someone hijacks a thread. But remember we are phamily. We love each other. Cuz when it starts getting ugly up in here, I will start swinging the velvet hammer.
