HomeTeamFamily
"Let every person be subordinate to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been established by God. Therefore, whoever resists authority opposes what God has appointed, and those who oppose it will bring judgement upon themselves" has this been used in support of papal authority? i think this is a strong verse in favor of it because it states that there is no authority EXCEPT FROM GOD.......it does not solely establish God as the pure, only, final, whatever authority....thus defeating sola scriptura right? any thoughts? StColette
ooooh that's an awesome verse Adam !!! I've never actually used that one for the support of Papal Authority !! Thanks for the heads up !
phatcatholic
yea, good call adam. i've always just applied that to the authority of the state. it makes sense as a reference to the papacy tho!! i feel like a big moron for not noticing that before!! MorphRC
Gotta be careful, because some people will try to apply it to immoral governments and organizations as some type of justification, God doesnt establish that. Id say imo the deeper meaning to the verse would be, God places who He wants in places they will do His work, and that God is incharge of everything. StColette
yep yep Morph, I see where you are coming from. But we can never be sure if governments and orginizations were given that authority by God, how ever the Bible gives plenty of proof that Jesus Christ, second member of the Holy Trinity, gave "authority" to Peter. lol does that make sense or am I rambling ? MorphRC
Sounds good. Isnt there something in the Bible that says, you know a person by their works? Sounds like James, but Im not sure. Geez it might be Hagakure..lol
