Aloysius
what think you? does the universe have an end or does it go on forver?
MichaelFilo
If it went forever, then we'll never know. If it ended, we wil someday know. What doI think? Infinte. What is the greatest sign of the worthlessness of a human being in the context of our value to God's when you compare us to something that is infinte? Maybe God left us a litttle (err BIG) reminder. God bless, Mikey
Aloysius
i can't decide.. lol in one sense i kinda think well, creation is finite but in the other sense, there seems to be no end to space and if God wanted to leave us with something in nature to teach us about Himself He would've made it go on forever... how can infinity exist within the context of time and space and creation? hmm... Thy Geekdom Come
It has to be finite, otherwise it couldn't be a part of creation. And science agrees with this. Einsteinian phsyics tells us that if it were infinite, the universe would be the inverse shape...flat and curved into a saddle shape.
MichaelFilo
Scientifically speaking, it is finite. Science has been drasticly wrong before. God bless, Mikey (I don't mind which it is, as long as I get to understand it when I die, and I gain all the cool knowledge of how everything was going on while I was living (sorta like behind the scenes)). RandomProddy
It's possible, but only if "the speed of gravity" is finite. I think it's is but I'm not sure.. Edited August 22, 2004 by RandomProddy
Iacobus
I was listening to something on this the other day... The Universe is finite. The Universe is all that is space and time. Outside of space time there is nothing. And science teachs in the 2nd Law of Theromodynamics and in the laws of converation of matter and E that there is a limited amount of matter and E. And for every action less E is spent making the action than is put in. Ie your car makes heat. It is things like that. Al, a good book on it, I hear, is "How Did the Universe Get Its Spots." Law of Conservation of Matter: During an ordinary chemical change, there is no detectable increase or decrease in the quantity of matter. The Law of Conservation of Energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but can change its form. Therefore, the total quantity of matter and energy available in the universe is a fixed amount and never any more or less.
White Knight
I believe it doesn't have an edge, I believe it is Infinite. But I truely wont know until a certian day, that day, I'm not sure when it will come, hopefully soon.

MorphRC
Id say I dont know, but ive read that the universe is ever-expanding.
yiannii
Earth definately has an end with the sun running out of life. What happens with blackholes? Don't all stars (including the sun) turn into blackholes? I think the end will be in the bottom of a blackhole....LOL
yiannii
what lies outside the ever expaning universe?
Aloysius
i have no idea... hehe real nothingness? that's a concept a human mind can't grasp, it's nothing as in no space at all... or maybe the universe is round and I can be cristopher columbus, i'll launch a rocketship and keep going strait till i hit the otherside of the planet! hehhe
