MorphRC
I bought that idiots guide. A few parts were good. But the majority is up the creek.
MorphRC
Maybe the title should be: Only an idiots guide to buying idiotic 'scholarship' that could have been written better by an idiot himself. Long title, may not sell.
Aloysius
i bought a whole series all about world religions, and i read the Catholocism one first to make sure it was a good rep of us (so then i'd be sure to get the real deal about the other ones) and it was good i don't know why this relates to this thread, but whatever Catholocism by George Brantl Nihil Obstat: John A. Goodwine, J.C.D. Censor Librorum Imprimature: Francis Cardinal Spellman Archbishop of New York Library of Congress Catalog Card Number: 61-15501 anyway, i'm gonna become an expert on every single freakin religion in the world soas none of the dumb liberals can call be ignorant or closed-minded, they'll havta admit i'm well-informed and still full of Catholic Faith

cmotherofpirl
Another basic book" The Everything Bible Book: from Genesis to Revelation, all you need to understand the Old and New Testaments" by Father Trigilio and Father Kenneth Brighenti. THis is not a specifically catholic book since it covers the orthodox and protestant viewpoints as well, but is a great basic overview of every book in the bible. It also contains a plan to read the whole bible in one year.
Brother Adam
I love "The One Year Bible" for that purpose, cept it doesn't include the apocrapha..
Lil Red
i bought the "Idiots" guide. then i looked through it and returned it. when the salesclerk asked why i was returning it, i simply said, "It is not an orthodox Catholic book." she looked at me weird, but ah well. Spiritual_Arsonist
Don't buy it. I just reviewed it and it's carp. Buy Catholicism for Dummies instead. And buy "If your mind wanders at mass" by Howard. That is all.
Amen. Not a good book. Dummies is good. Paladin D
I bought the book Complete Idiot's Guide to Catholicism, pretty heterodox. It viewed some superstitous traditions that some Catholics do (Irish, Hispanic, etc) as okay and a way of Catholic culture, which is not true. I didn't even bother reading further, returned it, and got Catholicism for Dummies, much better book. We also have to pray that those who are curious about Catholic teaching, won't purchase a Complete Idiot's Guide To Catholicism.

cathgirl
Don't buy "The Everything Catholicism Book" by Helen Keeler and Susan Grimbly either. It says that Mary "may" have went on to have more children, that maybe the stand that the Church has on birth control is wrong, and that women should be able to follow the call to the priesthood as faithfully as men.
