Halloween

We get dresssed up and go trick or treating. No devil or demon costumes, and nothing extremely lightweight, because here it usually rains or snows on that date.

For years our church did a BIG haunted house in the old school building and raised thousands of dollars for charity. My kids were various 'creatures' and I was the lady at the door who stamped your hand and asked if you had made your last will and testament and said your final prayers :D I also inquired whether you had friendly feelings towards rats. :rolling:

My children took great pride in their work

After Haunted House closed halloween kinda lost its appeal. :(

On all Saints day, I have a white cake and white icing with all my kids saints icinged on it, and I cook a big supper. In addition throughout the year, I celebrate all my childrens feastdays.

You take what the culture offers and make it your own.

Go to Mass..... pray for the dead. My wife's family is Hispanic, they meet at the graveyard and have a picnic and remember the dead and pray. I believe there is a plenary indulgence offered on all Souls, Saints or both. Also, join the secular world........after all we live in it. Dress up, get some candy...... most churches/schools have a family oriented affair. OK let's stay away from the Devil/Demon costumes. Our Catholic School has kids dress up as different Saints...... a nice touch I think.

This is a great motto for holidays (read holy days) that have been secularized or even fro non-religious holidays.

Best thing to do? I may offer a few suggestions:

Get a cake or two or some sweets and get a book and recall the lives of the saints. Possibly watch a movie about a saint or holy ppl.

GO TO MASS

Dress kids up in costumes of saints with props proper to each saint.

its a holiday thats all, we are worshiping the devil and do little spells and chants. We're dressing up in goofy costumes and junking out on as much candy as humanly possible in one night, nothing satanic about it. Just fun, I don't see the big deal with it. I like candy lol! Halloween is funfunfun lol
