voiciblanche
My closest friend (fourteen in October) is considering being on the Pill. Obviously, I was like, "No way! You can't be on the Pill!" The thing is, she wouldn't be using it as birth control - she's not planning on having sex with anyone, and it'd be pretty hard for her to if she wanted to, and she doesn't even want to, etc. etc. The thing is, she read in a magazine that the Pill can be taken by girls that want to bring down their periods to about four a year, rather than the norm. This is what she wants, so she was telling me she was going to look into it. I was like, "No, no, no!" But she doesn't understand why it would be wrong if she wasn't using it as birth control, and I don't really know what to tell her... Help, anyone? StColette
Keep trying to talk her out of it. And pray for her of course. The Pill should not be taken unless a girl is given strict orders from a doctor, and it is for a good medical purpose, like taking the pill what help some type of disorder a person has. Something on that manner. But even then it's a good idea to have a second opinion. But the pill should never be taken just because it is convenient to not have a period every month. Mrs. Bro. Adam
Tell her that the pill has been known to have some very serious side effects, and if I remember, has made some women completely infertile. If your friend wants to have children, she should think about the side-effects before taking something for convience.
p0lar_bear
Is it ok that i take it? mine is to keep a disease under control.... -_-
If the adjusting of your hormones is really the best way to deal with the disease (for example, with endometriosis) then yes, it is OK. The Pill can be taken as a medication to treat a disease, just like you would use insulin to treat diabetes. However, anyone who takes The Pill, whether to treat a disease or to lessen the number of periods or to treat acne, needs to realize the inherent dangers of The Pill. I'm sure someone here has actual statistics and such, so I'll just give an overview. Taken correctly The Pill can increase a woman's chances of several types of cancer (cervical, uterine, etc.), increase the chances miscarriages and permenant infertility. Even taken correctly, the Pill can cause severe bleeding and even death. A women's body cycles every 28 (or so) days for a reason. It is the way a womens body is designed, messing with that can have consequences. Particularly since voici's friend is so young, tampering with her cycle without due cause is not a good idea. VeraMaria
The Pill can have some very dangerous side effects. ONLY when a doctor assigns it should it be taken, and even there it'd be good to have options. I'll dig up some links for you if you want, about why it shouldn't be taken except for strictly medical reasons, and the side effects it can have. Iacobus
Only on Doctors orders. Your body has a system that works. The doctor is only going to give you orders like that if something in that native system isn't working right. Is her body is working right and a doctor hasn't told her to take it, stay away from it. Thy Geekdom Come
Are periods really that bad that you would want only four a year at the price of possibly causing future miscarriages, cancers, and other health problems related to the pill?
