theculturewarrior
Today I told a non-church going relative, "Ya gotta change your ways or your going to hell." I usually try to be tactful, but it hasn't been working. He asked me "which ways do I need to change?" I said, "that's between you and God." Do you think I was too direct? To be phair, he has said things against my beliefs. And I did it out of Love.

I don't know whether I'm familiar enough with the situation to tell you whether or not it was the right call ... Sometimes, though, the direct way is the best. Sojourner
OK, so I just wanted to put in an update on this thread. I was still feeling really bad about life on Saturday, but I was also starting to think through why I was feeling so bad about life. So I went to confession and spent some time in prayer, then went to Mass, and the reading was from Hebrews 12:5-7, 11-13:
Brothers and sisters, You have forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as children: "My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him; for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines; he scourges every son he acknowledges." Endure your trials as "discipline"; God treats you as sons. For what "son" is there whom his father does not discipline? At the time, all discipline seems a cause not for joy but for pain, yet later it brings the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it. So strengthen your drooping hands and your weak knees. Make straight paths for your feet, that what is lame may not be disjointed but healed.
Wow! It was just what I needed to hear. I so easily fall into the "poor me" pity party, where it's me against the world and everybody hates me, nobody loves me ... but that's so wrong! I get lost in bitterness and depression, and then my heart is closed to God and I'm not able to bear the fruit he wants me to bear. So yay for the sacraments! Lil Red
good for you! but there are times when you legitimatly have a reason for being depressed. sometimes, it's not a choice.
Sojourner
This is totally true. I've experienced that myself at various points over the years ... even in that, though, I've found that availing myself of the grace of the sacraments helps to remind me of the goodness of God. Guest T-Bone
5) Today I walked to lunch in the rain, and on the way I tripped on one of the bricks and fell and bruised my knee and my arm. So now I’m wet, cold, and bruised. I almost just sat down on the sidewalk and started crying.
If you're not cold, wet, and miserable, you're not having fun. At least that's how it works with camping/hunting and other outdoorsy activity...

Being in the woods makes everything better. But being wet and cold just ain't all that fun when you gotta work.
