It all started when Fred and Wilma Flintstone hit tv...

... no wait... when Ralph and Alice Kramdon were on "The Honeymooners"...

See? It's a tv staple... It's always been that way... It's nothing new.
just because that it's been that way from the beginning....does that make it right?

Yes, that makes it right. Ugly, fat, smelly men...some might call them trolls...should always have the hope of having hotties.

:P

I believe you are thinking about it too hard. There are better things to worry about in life than the relative attractiveness of sitcom couples. If there are not more important things to worry about the I recommend smiling real big, thanking God, and not worrying about anything. :)

Don't you think it gets tiresome for men to think that tv always makes them looks like stupid, sloppy, clods all the time?

i think the whole 'normal guy/attractive wife' thing is somewhat heartening because it means that girls are attracted to nice guys, not necessarily hot conceited guys. but then i could mean that as people get older, women are supposed to be hot (or dump them) but men can let themselves go. or it could mean what you all are saying, that dumpy girls can never get hot guys...

maybe i'll just stop watching t.v....

I have seen this more than once in real life, and it makes me wonder what they were thinking when they married those guys. I don't like shows about the dumb, clueless husband and beautiful wife who juggles a career and kids and practically has to dress her husband. It's depressing. I would have no problem with it if the guy had a good personality, but he doesn't even have that!

That being said, I don't think Everybody Loves Raymond qualifies, though there have been times when I wanted to hit Raymond over the head. I like Robert better. I think Ray's a decent-looking guy. And he's clueless at times, but at least he tries!
it's not really very realistic, and i wish they would make shows with a not so hot wife and a really hot hubby.
how is it not realistic? and your wish--not realistic either if i'm thinking what you're thinking.

and even more so--if it switched around, then it would be unfair to the GUYS who think that they have to look like that to get an average girl. it goes both ways ladies.

now--if they cast both parties as gorgeous, that would leave the slobs watching hurt, thinking basically the same thing.

the other way? both complete slobs? hey, it'd probably make us all feel a bit better, knowing we don't have to be perfect to get on TV.

-_- i'm tired of this subject. next?

why am i even commenting on this? i'm not getting married for a few more years anyway.

i don't find the wives too attractive... it's their daughters that make me watch the shows lol
