Rebirth flame
So, for maybe a year or more now, i've been going to adoration of the blessed sacrament and then mass, in that order. Then the priest left that was doing that, and a new priest (obviously enough) came over. Anyways, this new priest told us that adoration is NOT to be done before mass, cuz the vatican has said something or another about it... To my question, would anybody happen to know what he's talking about? i wasn't under the impression that adoration was not to be done before mass, which is what he told us all... So, like, if you'd happen to know what encyclical or writing he is quoting, a link to it or what it said on this subject would be nice... i just don't understand this, so any enlightenment would be wonderful! Thank you and God Bless ya! ~nate
cappie
I don't know to which teaching he is referring. But I do know that Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is not to be seen as something isolated from the Eucharistic Sacrifice but an extension or prolongation of it. So to expose the Blessed Sacrament at the end of Mass would seem to be logical, as the host thus exposed should be consecrated at the Mass just celebrated. Obviously this is not a hard and fast law as far as I know but a renewed way of looking at exposition, seeing it, as I said, not as something isolated but as an extension of the Mass From the Catechism: 1378 Worship of the Eucharist. In the liturgy of the Mass we express our faith in the real presence of Christ under the species of bread and wine by, among other ways, genuflecting or bowing deeply as a sign of adoration of the Lord. "The Catholic Church has always offered and still offers to the sacrament of the Eucharist the cult of adoration, not only during Mass, but also outside of it, reserving the consecrated hosts with the utmost care, exposing them to the solemn veneration of the faithful, and carrying them in procession."
