fewbutmany
its hard trying to find foods without them. when I'm with friends and we are going to order pizza, I think it woud be rude to tell them I can't because of the partially hydrogenated oils used in the dough

MrsFrozen
Heheh, Curtins.. You're right, trans fats are bad for you. They probably can't be altogether eliminated from one's diet, but if you cut down on processed and packaged foods (like snack cakes, sugary cereals, cookies--stuff you shouldn't eat a lot of anyway) you'll avoid a lot of trans fats. Also, I read the first article you posted, and they claim that the obesity epidemic in America started when coconut oils in snack foods were replaced by partialyl hydrogenated oils. I think if you're feasting on coconut oil foods all day, you'll probably have just as much of a weight problem as someone who feasts on partially hydrogenated oil foods. Plus, did you know that the obesity standards are different now? Someone who is considered "obese" now probably wasn't considered obese fifty years ago. When someone says "obese," most people think of someone who weighs 300 lbs. or so. Wrong! Look at this weight chart. http://www.optifastnj.com/BMI-Chart.htm It's way too generalized. JMO. God bless.
1337 k4th0l1x0r
But eating cocounut oil will keep you from being hungry vs. partially hydrogenated oils which will not always satisfy your hunger and therefore you eat more. I'm trying to cut these things out of my diet. Maybe I could try a diet where I could eat whatever I want as long as it doesn't have partially hydrogenated oil in it. I do a moderate amount of exercise anyways, so it probably couldn't hurt. Edited August 18, 2004 by 1337 k4th0l1x0r
emmaushouseMSU
don't believe everything you read in a book or especially online. Not to say that there is absolutly no truth to this, but why has our government not taken away any of this? They spend billions of dollars on food research. Some website started by a radical who believes there is a conspiracy in everything in life, does not have a life. If I followed all the advice that people gave me, I would have a hard time living my life. This fits in the catagory of "dont freeze water in plastic bottles because it turns the water to poison!". reelguy227
This stuff is true .My mom is a nurse and was the one who had our family try to cut down on hydrogenated oils . And she also said ,these oils can lead to cancer ,the hydrogenation process creates hydrogen bubbles that when digested ,create free radicals ,which can cause cancer. The more of these oils you eat ,the more free radicals are floating around in your system ,thus having more of a chance to create cancer. Paladin D
Yes, hydrogenated oils are not healthy at all, my family has cut back on them. emmaushouseMSU... A lot of money is made when the FDA approves of food products that contain addictive and unhealthy substances. Why? People will buy it more, they will get sick, then will buy medicine to get better. The Food and Drug administrations make money this way. I could be wrong, but it is a point. Greed is a powerful thing.
Oik
Curtins is right. Also though, I am at a stage where I am trying to eat from the earth (veggies, veggies, veggies). I think though, food isn't important. If you want to be healthy then do it. If you don't, then don't, but, do not combine this with sin (gluttony or also being up-ity about what you eat). If some one gives you food, appreciate it, hydrogenated oils or not.
