I like two Incubus songs, "Drive" and "Megalomaniac"
I don't think the lyrics are that bad at all for Drive:

Sometimes, I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can't help but ask myself how much
I'll let the fear take the wheel and steer.
It's driven me before, and it seems to have a vague,
haunting mass appeal.
But lately I'm beginning to find that I
should be the one behind the wheel.

Whatever tomorrow brings,
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes, Yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there..I'll be there.

So, if I decide to waiver my chance to be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine and hold my own and drive?
Aah-ah-oo-o-o.

It's driven me before and it seems to be the way
that everyone else gets around.
But lately I'm beginning to find that when
I drive myself my light is found.

Whatever tomorrow brings,
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes, Yeahhh
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there...I'll be there.

Would you choose water over wine....hold the wheel and drive?

Whatever tomorrow brings,
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes, Yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there..I'll be there.
Do do do do do do do do

Megalomaniac isn't too bad except for the three f-bombs, I think:
I hear you on the radio
You permeate my screen, its' unkind but
If I met you in a scissor fight
I'd cut off both your wings on principle alone
On principle alone

Hey megalomaniac
You're no Jesus
Yeah, you're no f****** Elvis
Special, as you know yourself
Baby, just step down, step down

If I were your appendages
I'd hold open your eyes
So you would see
That all of us are heaven sent
There was never meant to be only one
To be only one

Hey megalomaniac
You're no Jesus
Yeah, you're no f****** Elvis
Special, as you know yourself
Baby, just step down, step down

Yeah
You're no Jesus
You're no Elvis
...
You're no answer

Hey megalomaniac
You're no Jesus
Yeah, you're no f****** Elvis
Special, as you know yourself
Just step down

Would I be ok sticking with these two?

Is it REALLY bad to listen to songs bands that fit into a category above? I mean no the satanic stuff. I wouldn't touch that with a pole. But stuff like Blink-182 or The Strokes or Outkast.

You have to realize, as I mentioned above, you aren't looking for "what can I get away with?" but instead, "what is spiritually good for me". So by the way you ask the questions alone, I'd say no, those songs are NOT ok. That response itself may not be satasifactory, so read on.

The first one conveys a good message, and isn't really too bad at all. I don't know about the actual beats (this alone can be ALOT worse then the lyrics).

The second song however, convey's no good message, but instead is a song about hate. It makes another person seem like less. The line with Jesus and then Elvis, shows a comparison between the two, even if it isn't said outright. I'd say, stear cleer of that one. It would fit into the "what can I get away with category".

My point is, if your asking the questions to see what you can get away with, than that is enough to say both are wrong. Why is that? Because you are looking for, not what can you listen to so that you may grow in the love of Jesus, but what can you llistn to so that it doesn't hurt your relationship with Jesus, and how you act daily.

However, if you never asked the question, I'd say no to the second song, the first is acceptable.

God bless,

Mikey

gopher, I'd drop Blink 182 and Outkast if I were you. I don't know about the Strokes, I haven't really ever listened to them.

very true. it took me about year or so. you cant be wishy washy about it. one day you just gotta make an agressive decision, never turn back, and don't regret that decision. hopefully that will hapen sooner than later for you. just take a hammer to them cds, it makes it a lot easier.
