skuba steve
http://home.elp.rr.com/endtimeprophecy/catholic1.htm Ok... I just copied and pasted... please explain Roman Catholic Church Teachings Contradict the Bible 5) Missing Ten Commandment Catholic teaching: The 2nd commandment is removed while the 10th commandment is split into two parts in order to keep the number of commandments at ten. Comment: This was done to eliminate the restriction on worship of statues and icons of the saints, angels and Mary. Roman Catholic Ten Commandments Ten Commandments of the Bible from Exodus 1) I am Yahweh your God. You shall have no gods except me. 1) You shall have no other gods before Me. ? 2) You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. 2) You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. 3) You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. 3) Remember to keep holy the Lord's day. 4) Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 4) Honor Your father and your mother. 5) Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you. 5) You shall not kill. 6) You shall not murder. 6) You shall not commit adultery. 7) You shall not commit adultery. 7) You shall not steal. 8) You shall not steal. 8) You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 9) You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 9) You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. 10) You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor. 10) You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's." 6) Rosary Catholic teaching: Praying the Rosary expresses devotion to the Virgin Mary Bible: Only the heathen (which are non-Christians) say the same prayer over and over. By saying the rosary you are also asking her to pray for you. You should be praying to Christ or God. 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus Matthew 6:7 "And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 7) The Popes Catholic teaching: The apostle Peter was the first pope who then transferred his authority to Linus according to Irenaeus. History: The bishop of Rome did not receive the title of Pope until the 500's. Many of the early bishops prior to this time were called Pope or pappas in Greek which means father. Catholic teaching: The apostle Peter, who is claimed to be the first Pope, was not married. Bible: Peter, also known as Cephas, had a wife. Matthew 8:14 Now when Jesus had come into Peter's house, He saw his wife's mother lying sick with a fever. 1 Corinthians 9:5 Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? Catholic teaching: The Pope is the head of the Catholic church History: No single head of the Christian church is found in the New Testament. In the early church there was no clear distinction between clergy and laity. Each local area was headed by a local bishop or elder according to Paul and the writings of Ignateus. In the 200's the bishop of each Roman provincial capital gradually acquired authority over the other local churches. In 325 the Council of Nicaea gave primacy to the bishops of Antioch, Alexandria and Rome. The universal primacy of the Pope began with Pope Siricius in the late 300's. Catholic teaching: The Pope is infallible. This means that the Pope is incapable of error in matters of faith and morals. Bible: The Pope is only a man. The apostle Peter (claimed to be the first Pope) could make mistakes as he did concerning eating with Gentiles prior to being corrected by Paul. Galatians 2:11-14 Now when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed; for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy. But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews? Catholic teaching: Adoration of the Pope Bible: The Pope is a human man and with the same temptations and problems as we. Peter did not allow others to bow before him why should the pope. Acts 10:25-26 As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter lifted him up, saying, "Stand up; I myself am also a man." 8) Celibacy and Priests Catholic teaching: Priests are required to be celibate (forbidden to marry). Bible: The Spirit calls forbidding to marry a doctrine of demons. 1 Timothy 4:1-4 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; Catholic teaching: Bishops are forbidden to marry. Bible: In the New Testament bishops and church elders have wives and children. Titus 1:5-7 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you- if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination. For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, 1 Timothy 3:2-4 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence 1 Corinthians 9:5 Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? 9) Purgatory Catholic teaching: Purgatory is the final purification or punishment of the elect after death, for all who died in God's grace but are impure, so that they might achieve the holiness to enter heaven. Bible: No mention of a final purification or purgatory after death. Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment Bible: At death you go to heaven or to hell, there is no middle ground. Luke 16:25-31 "But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented. And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.' "Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house,'for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.' "Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.' "And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' "But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.' " Bible: No second chance purification. Romans 2:5-11 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who "will render to each one according to his deeds": eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness-indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For there is no partiality with God. Bible: If you believe in Christ you are saved after you die. Hebrews 10:10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Comment: The doctrine of Purgatory teaches that Christ's atonement for our sins on the cross was not sufficient for our salvation. 10) Communion Catholic teaching: Drinking of the Wine by the Priest only for over the last 1500 years. Comment: The Last Supper is meant for all believers. Until the last Vatican Council only the priest could drink the wine. In some parts of the world this is still true. 1 Corinthians 11:23-27 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes. Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. Catholic ritual: The Communion wafer is a circular disc. Bible/History: The bread eaten at the Last Supper was the normal unleavened bread used during Passover. In the early church the Last Supper was held at a normal meal held on Sunday afternoon with normal bread. The Communion disc is circular like the Egyptian round bread that symbolized the sun and was absorbed into the Catholic church after the time of the Emperor Constantine. Comment: An e-mail was sent to me stating "who cares what type of communion host we use." The only objection I have to the circular host is that it was an object included in pagan worship that was absorbed into Catholic ritual. . If you use other types of bread or grape use that is your option. I just feel that God would have an objection to including a pagan object as representing the body of his Son. 11) Abstaining from Meat on Fridays Catholic teaching: No meat is to be eaten on Fridays especially during Lent. Bible: Abstaining from foods is the doctrine of demons. 1 Timothy 4:1-3 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. Not Convinced? Then please 1) Read the Bible - The scriptures say that when anyone reads the Bible they will understand it. If you continue to read with an open mind you will eventually see the many contradictions between the teachings of the Catholic church and the Bible. Ephesians 3:4 By which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ, Romans 15:4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. 2) Trust the Word of God when tradition states otherwise Many false doctrines and pagan traditions have crept into the Catholic church since it became the official religion of the Roman empire in the 300's AD. 3) Works, sacraments, and good deeds will not get you to heaven. Only by accepting Jesus Christ as your savior will you be saved. May God Bless You This is an excerpt from an address given by the Cardinals to Pope Pius III, and is preserved in the National Library of Paris, Folio No. 1068, Vol. 2, pp. 650 651: "Of all the advice that we can offer your holiness we must open your eyes well and use all possible force in the matter, namely to permit the reading of the gospel as little as possible in all the countries under your jurisdiction. Let the very little part of the gospel suffice which is usually read in mass, and let no one be permitted to read more. So long as people will be content with the small amount, your interest will prosper; but as soon as the people want to read more, your interest will fail. The Bible is a book, which more than any other, has raised against us the tumults and tempests by which we have almost perished. In fact, if one compares the teaching of the Bible with what takes place in our churches, he will soon find discord, and will realize that our teachings are often different from the Bible, and oftener still, contrary to it." jasJis
Steve, Don't you read the Catholic posts that we've posted here and at YA? 10 Commandments Catholics don't worship statues, and consider it a grave sin that could condemn one to hell. The order of the "Catholic" 10 commandments were around 1,000 years before the "protestant" order which renumbered them just to LIE that the Catholics worship statues and renumbered them. Rosary Scripture tells us to pray constantly. The pagans thought that the repeating of the prayers gained power over the gods. The Rosary helps us pray constantly and the Church teaching is the power lies in our meditation on Scripture and helps us be obedient to constant prayer. We do not gain power over any God or Saint in heaven. All prayer is petition, thanks giving, praise, etc. Pope Christ is head of His Church. Look at Peter's role among the Apostles. Even Paul recognized Peter's role and how he had to discuss the gentile circumcision to Peter's face. Read History with a more open heart. Only after the way things were done or believed for hundreds of years were they questioned by some and the Church had to provide an official definition to preserve Christ's teachings. Christ is the Ultimate Groom and Ultimate Human and Divine Servant of His Church. That is what the Pope is and what Jesus told the Apostles when they asked Jesus (face to face) who would be the Leader after Christ. infallibility It's funny how contradictory Protestants are about this. The claim effective infallibility in their own discernment of Scripture when they claim they need no other authority to interpret Scripture. Are Protestants not as human as the Pope? The Pope is as human as these silly Protestants and is just as prone to error when he relies on just himsef. The Pope is infallible when he acts within the official compacity of Pope in the Church. The Pope cannot contradict Dogma or Scripture, they have to agree. Much prayer, effort, study, and aid of the Magesterium of the Church are the avenues of grace that the Holy Spirit works that works grace through the Pope for the benefit of us, not the benefit of the Pope. The Pope is the Ultimate Humand Servant of the Church on Earth. Pope Adoration We dont' worship the Pope, we honor the Graces that God has bestowed on the Pope, both as a simple human, and through the official capacity of the Pope. You can spell it... R E S P E C T doesn't spell worship to me. Celibacy Flat out lie. The Roman Catholic Church PREFERS priests who are celibate because God tell us in Scripture that Celibacy is a gift from God himself and empowers a man to serve God and the Church with his entire self. PREFER is not Require. Celibacy is a discipline, not a doctrine. What is required by the Church is obedience to God's call. There are lot's of married priests in the Catholic Church in the Roman and other Rites in communion with the Roman Catholic Church. It's the exception to the Discipline Rule. Communion This is so full of false hoods and misleading statements that I'd have to write paragraphs about it. It is also ludicrous to defend what Catholics know what Eucharist is to people who deny the Real Presence. Abstain from Meat See FASTING in the bible, both New and Old Testament. This is starting to degenerate into less than purposeful stupidity into evil falsehood. Are you not convined? 1) Read the Bible - The scriptures say that when anyone reads the Bible they will understand it. The above sounds much like what the devil told Adam and Eve. 1)...Don't listen to God or others He sent to teach us. Read the Bible and think you by yourself are infallible and can discern God without help. (I guess that makes Moses, the Prophets, the Apostles, and Jesus's teachings as works in futility.) This also contradicts Scripture itself when it tells us to be obedient to the things that were taught and not written down. 2)...This sets you up as being infallible in discerning Scripture. Is that what you believe? 3)...This contradicts Scripture, plain and simple. Not only does this contradict Scriptural teaching in the Catholic Church, but contradicts Scriptural teaching in most Protestant Christian Churches as well. Steve, So much of what you posted is flat out lies, is hateful, and is against basic Christian teaching of most Christian Churches (Catholic and Protestant), it makes me wonder why you bother posting it. God Bless you Steve. You will be in my prayers today. jasJis
faithnhim24
Steve, From the look of that website, I would trust it about as far as I could throw it. It looks like some website for false prophets trying to predict the end of the world. Go to Catholic websites to find out what is truthfully taught. If the Catholic information on that site was actually true, I wouldn't have jumped ship from the Protestants and joined the Catholic Church this year. But once I started learning what the Church taught, read some history, went to RCIA, and found nothing in the Bible that contradicted it, but plenty of verses that supported Catholic doctrine and teachings, especially the Eucharist.......I knew it was the right Church. Cure of Ars
Scuba Steve I am glad that you like the avatar. I have a question. The Bible does not explicitly say how to number the Ten Commandments. From the Bible how do you know that you are numbering them right? Here is the Catholic answer; The Catholic Encyclopedia There is no numerical division of the Commandments in the Books of Moses, but the injunctions are distinctly tenfold, and are found almost identical in both sources. The order, too, is the same except for the final prohibitions pronounced against concupiscence, that of Deuteronomy being adopted in preference to Exodus. A confusion, however, exists in the numbering, which is due to a difference of opinion concerning the initial precept on Divine worship. The system of numeration found in Catholic Bibles is based on the Hebrew text, was made by St. Augustine (fifth century) in his book of "Questions of Exodus" ("Quæstionum in Heptateuchum libri VII", Bk. II, Question lxxi), and was adopted by the Council of Trent. It is followed also by the German Lutherans, except those of the school of Bucer. This arrangement makes the First Commandment relate to false worship and to the worship of false gods as to a single subject and a single class of sins to be guarded against--the reference to idols being regarded as mere application of the precept to adore but one God and the prohibition as directed against the particular offense of idolatry alone. According to this manner of reckoning, the injunction forbidding the use of the Lord's Name in vain comes second in order; and the decimal number is safeguarded by making a division of the final precept on concupiscence--the Ninth pointing to sins of the flesh and the Tenth to desires for unlawful possession of goods. Another division has been adopted by the English and Helvetian Protestant churches on the authority of Philo Judæus, Josephus Origen, and others, whereby two Commandments are made to cover the matter of worship, and thus the numbering of the rest is advanced one higher; and the Tenth embraces both the Ninth and Tenth of the Catholic division. It seems, however, as logical to separate at the end as to group at the beginning, for while one single object is aimed at under worship, two specifically different sins are forbidden under covetousness; if adultery and theft belong to two distinct species of moral wrong, the same must be said of the desire to commit these evils. Also please only ask questions one topic at a time. It makes it hard to address all the concerns when you throw out a whole bunch of misinformation.
