Catholic Catechism says:

2409 Even if it does not contradict the provisions of civil law, any form of unjustly taking and keeping the property of others is against the seventh commandment: thus, deliberate retention of goods lent or of objects lost; business fraud; paying unjust wages; forcing up prices by taking advantage of the ignorance or hardship of another.

The following are also morally illicit: speculation in which one contrives to manipulate the price of goods artificially in order to gain an advantage to the detriment of others; corruption in which one influences the judgment of those who must make decisions according to law; appropriation and use for private purposes of the common goods of an enterprise; work poorly done; tax evasion; forgery of checks and invoices; excessive expenses and waste. Willfully damaging private or public property is contrary to the moral law and requires reparation.

I think if you *intentionally* waste something, or are habitually wasteful it could be sinful, but I don't think it is a sin in every instance.

I used to eat all the left over food, so it wouldn't go to 'waste'...But what I realized is that not only is it still going to waste when I eat it (since my body doesn't need/want the food) but I am harming my body...I asked my self this question..."Which is more important my body, or this little food?" So now I don't eat food that is left over...

Ave Maria,

In "Love and Repsonsiblity" the Pope says that we are supposed to use creation, but not waste it.

One must consider what waste is.

If it results from a lack of moderation, making waste into excess, then I would say that is an occasion to sin.

As St. Benedict Says "All things in Moderation" and so if we do everything to glorify God even our mushy mud pie can do so.

Also flushable toliets cut way down on diesaese and polution. The Crapper is an invention that Glorifies God for sure, but there again we must make sure that we have the most effecient toliet with in our means...I think.

White Knight, the Church doesn't speak about it ex Cathedra, or even mentions is indirectly in the catechism. However, we do have reason, and reason says, don't put too much food on your plate, don't take more than you need, don't go into excess.

A quick look at the saints and one may quickly realize most took less then they needed, in an attempt to not go into excess. Yes, wasting things is sinful. You are abusing what is given to you, not making 110% out of what you get. When we waste, we also seem to forget to be gracious for what we have, because we are indeed, wasting it.

The toilet is a silly question however. Since you take it so seriously, I'll comment on it, since you did seem to be serious, i'll try to convey the same spirit. When one eats in excess, generally, the bathroom follows suit. So, going to often outside of medical/health reasons is a sign you are eating too much. On my triduums, I generally, for lack of better word, "mushy mud pie" at all. Of course, this is the extremes of fasting, and generally it makes sense. However, after it, my eating lessens, and so I eat less then what I need, knowing I will not be hungry after I am done. So yes, pooping to much is a sign of sinfullness (usually), however, in itself it is not sinful.

God bless,

Mikey
