So does Christendom. lol Actually, Christendom likes to get big Catholic families going there and convince them to send all their kids there....

They only got 2 of our 12. lol Well, my younger sister went for a semester, so technically 3, but since she didn't graduate from there really only 2.... I doubt my brothers will go there, its just not them, possibly FUS but thats pretty iffy, too.

The Theology professors are the ones required by the Church to take it, which is why they emphasize that more.

To everyone that went to Steubie with expectations:

No matter what college you go to, people will drink. People will smoke. Teenagers (and early 20 year olds) rebel. Not all, but most will at some point. You will not find a college in this nation where no one takes part in these activities. And there is no college out there full of "saints" either. Just stating a fact here. :)

I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment.

But honestly, I NEVER expected the whole Friday night drunks puking down the halls Saturday morning to happen at Steubenville. And I don't think I should've had to expect that--Steubenville claims to hold itself to a higher standard.
Drinking/smoking/swearing, I can handle. I'm not a saint, and I sure as heck wasn't one before I reconciled.
But coming back to the dorms so drunk you have to let the rest of the hall know... that's a little over the top.
You never hear of things like that happening at Ave Maria, or Christendom.

I just got really turned off by the charasmatic movement in general. I know good Catholics get trashed sometimes when they are young and silly.

Sursum Corda

I earned my MA in Counseling at FUS. I went elsewhere for my undergraduate degree. My experience in Steubie was amazing. While it is true that I did not live on campus, there were many opportunities to grow in holiness. I too was quite disillusioned by the number of students who participated in unholy activities. However, once I changed my focus from others' behaviors to my own, things were much better. I also sought out holy friends, which helped a ton.

Fides_et_Ratio I hope things get better for you.

For the record, at least at Christendom, there is definately the party/drinking crowd, and they do get toasted, but they were always more discreet coming in... not that that makes it much better, but at least I never was in a situation where I had people coming in throwing up in the wee hours of the morning waking me up or anything. Maybe part of the reason why they were more cautious (I wouldn't say courteous because that probably wasn't the intent) is because at Christendom you can get fined, campused, or get work crew (cleaning up the campus at like 6 am on Saturdays) for getting into trouble--Christendom is a dry campus, no booze allowed even if you're over 21 so students have to go off campus to drink. I think Christendom is quite a bit more strict than Steubie in alot of ways.

So I see that there is soil to till everywhere^

Benedictine encourage responsible drinking, at the Monte Casino Inn (on Campus) every thursday the monks come down to drink with those who are old enough.

Christendom doesn't discourage drinking entirely, they just don't allow it on campus except for homecoming, St. Patty's day, and Oktoberfest. lol Everyone has to go through Theology 101, they know its a sin to deliberately get trashed. ;) Responsible drinking is what is expected, some people just like to push the limits.
