Sleeping In

Is it a mortal sin if one completely unintentionally sleeps through mass and there is no other mass available to them to go to? Especially if they were looking foreward to mass and are kicking themselves for sleeping in late?

This happened to me this morning. Thankfully there is a mass this evening at another church we are going to. But I"m wondering...

I always at least set one alarm when I am getting up and going straight to Mass.

I had an alarm set for 8:30 (mass is at 10:30 - I like to do devotions before hand). I woke up with the alarm and then thought to myself - I'll just lay here for 10 minutes and wake up. lol. Oops.

If you have small children, this almost never happens-- although parents of small children are among the most sleep deprived people I know...

I have to agree with what was said above, you didn't intend to you were looking forward to it so I would say not a mortal sin and just an honest accident. I'd recommend setting an alarm though to prevent have to kick yourself so much in the future! ;)

[quote name='PedroX' date='Aug 8 2004, 11:00 AM'] A mortal sin always involves the will. If it was an honest mistake, you are not in mortal sin.
