ironmonk
When doing a search on google for the news, we see that many people in the world think there are 53 states... It's amazing... why would they want to create such lies? - to make everything the republicans fault. I heard on the radio that they were telling the immigrants that the republican house of government was why the latinos were getting treated so bad, and the flag hasn't been updated because of the Republicans. Pretty pathetic... just as almost every democrat running must run on a campaign of lies. AND don't say that I'm saying this because I am a republican either because THAT IS NOT THE REASON. I hated the government - ALL OF IT - up until I was 18... I hated it because of all the blatent lies that I saw. Then it was pointed out to me to pay attention to who is doing the lying.... I didn't hate the government, I hated the democrats because everything out of their mouth about whoever they were running against 99% of the time was a LIE. I AM A REPUBLICAN BECAUSE democrat politicians and many in the party are evil. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Area school accused in scam Lockyer says organization exploited Latinos with fake diplomas. By Karen Robes Staff writer PARAMOUNT — Earning a high school diploma in 10 weeks seemed a bit odd to Esau Benitez, a 22-year-old machinist who needed the degree to join a local union. But the Norwalk resident heard an advertisement for California Alternative High School on a Christian radio station, which made just such a promise to its Christian "brothers." "It seemed a little strange, but I actually thought a church was running it, because I heard it on the radio," Benitez said. "It sounded too good to be true." It apparently was. On Thursday the same day Benitez was to pay for his first day of class officials from Attorney General Bill Lockyer's office seized evidence from several offices allegedly involved in a multimillion-dollar scheme to cheat many Latino clients who unknowingly paid hundreds of dollars to earn what turned out to be fake high school diplomas. Among the places served search warrants was Paramount-based West Side Education Corporation, the organization that ran the school. West Side president David Soto and West Side director Noel Brito could not be reached for comment. "This scam is especially disturbing because it exploits immigrants trying to improve their lives and the lives of their families through education," Lockyer said in a statement. "What's worse, these rip-off artists have cloaked their con in religious faith, and duped well-meaning clergy and their congregations." The school is said to have been targeting Latinos, allegedly charging $450 to $1,450 to go through a 10-week, 30-hour course to earn a diploma. Many of the classes took place in community centers and churches throughout California. It advertised that the diplomas would enable clients to get financial aid, qualify for a job and gain admittance to an accredited college. "They claim to graduate 1,500 students every 10 weeks nationwide," said Tom Dresslar of Lockyer's office. But when the "graduates' applied for jobs and to vocational schools, they discovered their diplomas were illegitimate. Some were fired as a result. They complained to the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer Affairs, which alerted Lockyer's office. Lockyer filed a consumer-protection lawsuit against the school and its principal, Daniel Gossai, who allegedly lied about his doctorate degrees and having a teaching credential. Gossai could not be reached for comment. The lawsuit stops the company from doing business and seeks at least $32 million in payment for damages to clients. Also, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Daniel Solis Pratt granted a temporary restraining order Wednesday, which suspends the school's assets. According to legal documents filed by Lockyer's office, students enrolled in the California Alternative High School were taught from a 54-page workbook that contained erroneous information. California Alternative teachers taught that there were 53 states in the United States including Puerto Rico and that the U.S. Government consisted of four branches executive, legislative, judicial and administrative. The temporary restraining order detailed one consumer's account: "When asked about the alleged fourth branch of government (the administrative branch), one teacher explained that it is not that important and not much is heard about it because it is behind the scenes." Benitez, who arrived at the school's Paramount office Thursday afternoon to pay his first $60 installment for a Saturday class, shook his head in disbelief. "I had no idea," he said. "It's good that they shut them down." Lockyer's office will seek a preliminary injunction, which would keep the temporary restraining order on the business pending the outcome of the case, Dresslar said. A hearing to consider the preliminary injunction will take place Sept. 1 at Norwalk Superior Court. ----------------------------------------------------------- http://www.latimes.com/news/education/la-m...a-news-learning Schools Closed in Alleged Fraud Immigrants paid hundreds of dollars to be taught that there are 53 states in the union. A chain of alternative high schools accused of selling phony diplomas has taught thousands of immigrants that there are 53 states in the union, four branches of government and two houses in Congress — one for Republicans and one for Democrats. Federal agents on Thursday raided the offices of California Alternative High School, based in Huntington Park, after Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer obtained a court order to freeze the school's assets. Among the items seized was the school's 54-page curriculum, which taught students that the Treasury Department was part of the "administrative" branch of the government, and that the flag had not yet been updated to reflect the nation's 53 states. According to court records, the school has given worthless diplomas to students after just 30 hours of instruction. It charges students, mostly Latinos, $450 to $1,450 for the 10-week course. The school claims 77 locations nationwide and says 1,500 students graduate every 10 weeks, according to state officials. The victims could number in the tens of thousands, officials said. A civil suit Lockyer filed Monday names three corporations and six people, including school Director Daniel Gossai of Rancho Palos Verdes and his wife, Janet. The couple could not be reached for comment. The defendants "made a lucrative career of exploiting immigrants' dreams of a better life through education," according to a request for a temporary restraining order that was granted Wednesday. They used community churches to solicit students and hold classes, according to the records, and claimed to be "fulfilling a divine mission to help Latinos escape poverty by earning a high school education." Lockyer said the "scam is especially disturbing because it shatters dreams" by taking advantage of people hoping to acquire knowledge and improve their lives. Rose Serrato, a 52-year-old Pacoima resident, paid $475 to enroll in the course in February after learning she needed a high-school equivalency diploma, or GED, to keep her part-time job with the Los Angeles Unified School District. After two classes, she said, she had doubts about the program. She asked her daughter to look up the school on the Internet, and both were convinced by the website they found that the school was legitimate. "I thought it was a way to get a GED quickly," Serrato said. According to court records, instructors spent class time reading questions aloud from the workbook and giving students the answers. "It was all too easy," said Josefina Roa, who attended with Serrato. "They didn't make us think. They gave us all the answers." The school promised a diploma to students who spoke no English, and most instruction was in Spanish. Serrato, who speaks Spanish but doesn't read it, said she had to request an English version of the workbook. When the course ends, graduates are required to rent a cap and gown and participate in a graduation ceremony to receive their official transcripts, court records said. Gossai often gives the commencement speech, and another school official translates it into Spanish. The school claims to be authorized by the state and affiliated with Los Angeles Unified. Its brochures imply that graduates are "eligible for admission to accredited colleges and universities" and "eligible to receive state and federal financial aid," court records said. Gossai claims to hold a "lifetime credential from the state of California" to teach at the community college level, but court records say he was dismissed from the Victor Valley Community College District "on grounds that he engaged in immoral conduct." The court order also freezes the Gossais' assets related to the school, including eight bank accounts, five cars, their Palos Verdes Peninsula home and six other properties in the Los Angeles area. Court records say the couple tried to hide assets by manipulating the title to property and placing funds in Gossai's wife's name. The lawsuit also names David Soto, president of West Side Education Corp., which bought the rights to operate school sites; Nel Brito, director of an affiliated school; Fabricio Sandoval, director of admissions; and Janira Jacobs, a teacher and administrator. Thursday's raid was the result of a two-year investigation by local, state and federal authorities. Authorities in Iowa and Nebraska also have taken legal action against the school in the last year. The civil suit seeks restitution for victims, $32 million in civil penalties and an end to allegedly illegal business practices. The court order named attorney David J. Pasternak to run the school until the civil suit is decided. * (Begin Text of Infobox) Workbook examples According to court papers filed by the California attorney general's office, the California Alternative High School's 54-page bilingual workbook contains the following statements: • There are 53 states in the United States. In addition to the "original" 50 states, the union has added Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. But the flag has not yet been updated to reflect the addition of the last three states. • There are four branches of government. They are the legislative, judicial, executive and "administrative" branches. Asked about the fourth branch by investigators, one teacher responded that "not much is heard about it because it works behind the scenes." The Treasury Department is part of the "administrative" branch. • There are two houses of Congress: the Senate for Democrats and the House for Republicans. • World War II occurred from 1938 to 1942. • One question in the workbook says: "Read the book 'Death of a Traveling Salesman' and write a commentary." White Knight
If I remember Jesus said to love your enemies, and to pray for them, but that doesn't mean you have to agree with them or like their views. I think Liberialism has very Anti-Godly views, and it does, but God still loves them, and so do I. Personally, I'm not saying I hate Liberials, because you souldn't hate, but I'm simply saying I dont agree with their views at all or 90% of the time.. I dont like their views most of the time. Oh Well, Jesus still loves them. God Bless.

http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/07149b.htm odium abominationis - is that in which the intense dislike is concentrated primarily on the qualities or attributes of a person, and only secondarily, and as it were derivatively, upon the person himself. ...in so far as it implies the reprobation of what is actually evil, is not a sin and may even represent a virtuous temper of soul. In other words, not only may I, but I even ought to, hate what is contrary to the moral law. Furthermore one may without sin go so far in the detestation of wrongdoing as to wish that which for its perpetrator is a very well-defined evil, yet under another aspect is a much more signal good. For instance, it would be lawful to pray for the death of a perniciously active heresiarch with a view to putting a stop to his ravages among the Christian people. Of course, it is clear that this apparent zeal must not be an excuse for catering to personal spite or party rancour. Yes... I hate liberalism. The above species of hate. I hate what is evil. I love them as brothers, I hate them as mentioned above. I would prefer them to change for Christ, and I do pray for them. One can have the above hate and still love them. Good Friday
Ironmonk, I challenge you to find me one statement from Catholic teaching that says you can hate a person or group of people in any way, for any reason. MichaelFilo
Liberals are cool people. Just convert them. Liberalism is usually unresearched assumptious thinking that leads nowhere but evil (ie. babies aren't human till X amount of days, marriage should be about love, etc.). Faulty thinking leads to quick revelation of error. It's good to show our liberal friends that their thinking doesn't hold up so well. However, add an atheist in and you may have a little trouble. We must love no matter how much we may want to do otherwise. Ironmonk, just because you are allowed to hate someone ( I don't think we are ), take care to not jump to it. Love, teach, pray for, and convert all those in err. No need to go on, ironmonk simply misunderstood WhiteKnight. God bless, Mikey
Mateo el Feo
My favorite quote is:
There are 53 states in the United States. In addition to the "original" 50 states, the union has added Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. But the flag has not yet been updated to reflect the addition of the last three states.
For everybody who is being serious, here's some proof-texting fun! When I love my brother:
1 John 4:20 - If any one says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.
When I hate my brother:
Luke 14:26 - "If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.
We've got quotes to cover us either way! ironmonk
Seriously, I still don't understand how this is the fault of liberals. peace...
Sorry bro... And thank you for actually asking me to clarify I heard about this first on the radio... On the radio they stated that one of the things that they were teaching the immigrants was that the flag hasn't been updated to reflect all 53 states because the Republican part of the government was keeping it from being updated, something alone the lines of not wanting the latin population to grow in America, I don't remember what he said verbatim because I was busy working at the time, so I went hunting for some articles on google. I know it was only one little part of what they did, but it just supported my other observations of the extremist agenda that is being pushed nationally by the democratic party. I called it typical liberal tactics because of what I hated about the government - all the blatent lies about others running against them - and it being the democrat liberals that I witness lying about the Republicans. Just as kerry's crew has lawyers trying to dishonor the men from http://www.swiftboatvets.com with total lies. These are the typical tactics that I witness from the democrat side of the country. Not all the democrats resort to this, I think on a local level there are some good ones, but only the men that must be possessed make it to the national level. And there are some republicans that pull crappy tactics like this, but only a small percentage from what I've been witnessing for about the last 13 years. I hate what they do, and I pray for them. I hate the democratic liberalism that is the democratic party's national agenda... I hate it as the Church teaches I should hate what is evil, but I do not hate the person. I'm sorry I did not clarify that properly in earlier posts. I pray for those that do the things I hate, when I see or hear of it and think how much I hate that they do such things against God, I pray that they have a change of heart at the same time. I do not want bad things to happen to them, I do want them to change and if they do not change I want them out of office. Now, parts of their economic plans are good, but fail in the aspect of reducing dependancy. Combining republican plans with the dem plans in regards to economic plans for the poor would be ideal... but many of these guys in the senate are to hooked on lobbists. This is totally in line with Catholic teaching, and if anyone doesn't think it is, you've already been proven wrong by the Catholic Encyclopedia posted above with a link to it. And, furthermore, whoever thinks this has something to do with "self rightousness" you have no clue what you are talking about. This has to do with fighting for what God wants, and living the way the Church teaches us. Maybe some think it's self rightousness because they are weak in scripture and Church teaching or maybe they don't have the courage to stand up for what is right by what the Church teaches. And... I have the right to vent. God Bless, ironmonk Edited August 7, 2004 by ironmonk
