AnomilE
Okay, A question arose in my mind today during morning Mass. Jesus typically condemned the Pharisees and Saducees for ascribing so tightly to the letter of the law and not ascribing to the spirit of the law. Today, post-conciliar theologians who are less orthodox in nature tend to use this scripture to assert that before the Second Vatican Council (mideval times), we as a Catholic Church were becoming like the Pharisees and Saducees and ascribing to tightly to the letter of the law and not as much as we should to the spirit of it. I find this hard to swallow since our adherance to the letter of the law is an upholding of the truth found in the very spirit of the teachings of Jesus- therefore upholding the spirit of the law. Do I have this right? I'm open to other thoughts. AnomilE Edited August 4, 2004 by AnomilE
cmotherofpirl
I think there is some truth to their statement, but not enought to justify their behavior. They have thrown the baby out with the bathwater and rejected almost laws, and incorporated 'feelings' as their guidelines.
