1337 k4th0l1x0r
I was considering getting a Strongbad or Trogdor tattoo, but ultimately, sanity won out. I do have a friend who got a dragon tattoo and we joke with him that it's Trogdor.

cooltuba
I'm thinking about getting another tattoo myself. Before I got my first tattoo, I decided to get a religious tattoo because that was the only thing I could guarantee that I would still have in my life for it's entirety. I went to a very good tattoo artist with two ideas. The first was a blend of images. It was a Sacred Heart with rays coming out of it instead of flames, and more of a heart shape than the original image. The rays were like the rays of light from the image of Divine Mercy. Here are the two images: The second idea was a dove I saw in a stained glass window. Here it is: I ended up going with the first idea. He drew both of them out, and I chose the first one. The funny thing that happened was when I was trying to describe the rays from the image of Divine Mercy, (I didn't bring pictures because I didn't want him to be copying a picture, I wanted an original work of art.) Anyway, I was having a hard time describing them correctly, and I noticed a picture on the wall, right next to his license from the state. It was the image of divine mercy! I showed it to him, and he got it right. I approved the sketch and he started getting ready to do the real thing. I had decided to put it on my right calf because it could be plainly seen when I wanted it to (shorts) or easily covered up (jeans or slacks). Anyway, the artist did an amazing job! The color and shading are just brilliant! Everyone who's seen it has complemented me on it. My mom especially loved it. The tattoo is currently in the height of it's popularity. A new understanding of the art has swept the nation. The tattoo is very old, and a very big part of some of the diverse cultures of the world. The current trend in tattooing is very bright colors and crisp, detailed lines; as well as tattooing natural images (birds, fish, or the ever popular butterfly) is an example of Japaneese tattooing culture. Here's what I'm talking about: Anyway, I really liked the experience of getting the tattoo, and I've had countless opportunities to tell people a little about the symbolism of the Sacred Heart! It was also a gift from my friends for my 22nd birthday. I'm definately getting more! I think I'll confine them to my legs for now, though. On a Catholic note, I've talked to Fr. Burns (Pontifex), and he says that he doesn't approve of them. They are an attempt to improve on the art of God. I think that if your intention is to get one to make yourself look better, he's right. I get mine so that I'll always have a powerful symbol with me, wherever I go, whatever happens. Here is what the Sacred heart represents: "What is so striking about the image is that the Heart of Christ is depicted as both crowned with thorns and on fire with love. Ringed by a crown of thorns, Jesus’ heart is the heart of the one who was crucified. On the cross, Jesus was given a crown of thorns by his tormentors. This was a gesture of mockery. His enemies believed that Jesus was attempting to establish a kingdom on earth. The crown of thorns was meant to highlight the apparent failure of Jesus to do so successfully. Instead of a majestic crown of gold studded with diadems, this terrible crown made of dead wood was an image of barrenness, futility and failure. Yet in the image of the Sacred Heart there is a blessed irony. Though crowned with thorns, the heart of Jesus is aflame with love. In the Gospel of John (1:5), the light of God is described as "a light no darkness can extinguish." This is the meaning here. The divine love burns on behind, despite and within the crown of thorns. To Christians, the image is a potent reminder of the omni-potent power of divine love." Source My consience must be my guide, and after serious prayer (years) and reflection, it still feels right. I may be wrong, and I may pay for it later, but I trust in the infinate mercy of God! --Tim

My best friend has a large "A" tattooed on her chest (upper chest), with lacework around it. The A is for Ashley; her name, but every time I see it, I think of the Scarlet letter. It doesn't help that the A is red. I would never get a tattoo as visible and easily construed as that. Although I personally like tattoos, I do realize that they are not appropriate for everyone/every situation. I like the fact that I can cover my tattoo easily. I think it's ultimately a very personal decision that should never be taken lightly. --Tim

If you want it still at the end of three months (or whatever), get it. be smart about choosing a tattoo and a tattoo artist. research the artist, ask them a lot of questions. watch them tattoo (with their permission). if they refuse to answer questions, they are not the tattoo artist for you or anybody. see if they hold to Universal Precautions (example).
