The ages of post-Flood patriarchs dropped rapidly and gradually leveled off (Gen. 11). Some suggest that this is due to major environmental changes brought about by the Flood. cmotherofpirl
The ages in Genesis don't have to be taken literally, remember they are teaching stories. The point of the ages was that holy people lived longer, and as sin increased man's time on earth decreased. " The ages for the patriarchs are symbolic, not exact. We can see that the ages of people reduce, the further they get from God; there is a process of degeneration at work due to the presence of evil. In a way there is the same sort of outlook here as in Proverbs 10:27:"The fear of the Lord prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be short." Mankind becomes more debased, so God reduces the allotted span to 120 years. [Genesis 6:3]" Navarre Bible -Pentateuch Enoch is a particularly interesting person. He is special in three ways: 1]He lives 365 years [the perfect number] 2]he walked with God 3] he did not die, God took him to himself.

MorphRC
You'd have to take Adams though, otherwise original sin could be proved false, right? Edited August 2, 2004 by MorphRC
cmotherofpirl
Adam is a fact, his age is not, it is a detail to show he lived a very long time.
Aloysius
no i don't think so. i actually think adam lived to be like 63 million years old. this is just a theory, but i think Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden while the dinosaurs roamed the earth. when then sinned God hadta kill off all the dinosaurs so he could banish them from paradise without them gettin eaten by a T-Rex. it's just a theory, but y not? lol, most ppl would take not taking those literally to mean making their lifespans shorter, i see it as we can make adam's lifespan longer! Aloysius
no, there's still tons of theories out there who haven't given up. besides, God threw a comet into the earth and protected Adam and Eve.
