BeenaBobba
Tonight, I was talking to one of my best friend's on the phone. She's an Orthodox Christian who plans on voting for Kerry at this point. She's pro-life, and she means well. She thinks that abortion will continue to be legal even if Bush is in office, and she thinks that Kerry will at least pull our troops out of Iraq and avoid more killing. When I asked her how she thinks abortion will be made illegal again, she answered that she doesn't think it will ever become illegal. Here were my objections to her arguments: 1.) I think there is a chance that abortion will become illegal again. Statistics have shown that our country is nearly split on the abortion issue. There are almost as many pro-lifers as there are pro-"choicers." Many others are apathetic. 2.) My friend thinks there's more public support for the end of the Iraqi War than there is for the end of abortion. This isn't necessarily true, as Americans are split on the Iraqi War (see here for more information on this). 3.) Making abortion illegal again would require a vote on a pro-life bill in Congress that wouldn't be vetoed by the President. It'd also require that the President would appoint a pro-life judge willing to overturn Roe v. Wade. All of this is possible with Bush in office -- a fact that worries many pro-"choice" organizations. 4.) At the end of the day, I don't think pro-"choice" groups hate Bush for nothing. My enemy's enemy is a friend of mine. If Bush wasn't a threat to the pro-"choice" movement, I doubt pro-"choicers" would hate him so much. What do you think? God bless, Jen

Madonna
That is like saying murder is always going to happen so we might as well make it legal and stop fighting. Apathy is the slow and painful road to hell.
littleflower+JMJ
just simply looking at how roe vs. wade was done and how abortion was made legal shows how easy it would be to make it illegal. the case has been trying to be thrown back to be overturned but the high courts deny it a chance......but its come close to makign it there and if it does (which former roe keeps trying) it can be done..... the whole case was all a fraud and based on total lies of selfish evil lawyers who took advantage of a lady who was in no shape to know what she was doing....and in the case of doe the lady just wanted to keep her children during a divorce......... the lawyers are now hiding the documents that prove it....both times they did not know what had happened (roe was drugged up/suicidal and the next day found out after learnign what her name did and in doe, she only wanted to get thru a divorce) it was all false......based on Lies!! both Roe, Doe and thousands of women are fighting to overturn its the judegs who are turning a deaf ear...... we only need to rid of our country of the judges and politicians who refuse to listen to both morality and to the screaming majority who surely know that abortion is wrong.....espcially now with all we know in medicine and science.... ending abortion is certainly not impossible.....we just have alot of bad guys who stand in our way and refuse to let it be done..... we can very easily if we only fight back more harder as the pro-life group........ read it there on http://www.lifenews.com the judges never answered the question of whether life begins at conception or not....something thru science, we can answer now.... M.SIGGA
No, I'm afraid it's a staple of American society and some aspect of it will always be legalized in USA, whether it's extremely restricted to the 1st trimester or "justified" in the case of rape and incest. "Abortion" also carried very different meanings for different people which is a big problem. For abortion to be made illegal totally as taught by the Church, there would also have to be an end to embryonic stem cell research, artificial fertility, and various forms of the pill and contraceptives that alter can alter a female's hormones to prevent the embryo from sticking and such. Since America is a democracy, I think the closest we will ever get to making abortion illegal is a middle-ground compromise.
mom25angels
Yes, abortion can definetly be made illegal. Your points are good, Jen. However to make it happen there has to be a change of heart by a lot of people, not by pro aborts(they are to immersed in the culture of death) but by people who 'wouldn't personally have an abortion but can't tell someone else they can't" Moral relativism is our biggest enemy, IMHO. Another of our largest enemies are those who are pro life but don't vote it. The best way to effect change is to use our rights--vote, protest and pray!! 1337 k4th0l1x0r
It really will take a change of heart on the part of most Americans, but also how they're taught about these issues. Fifty years ago, neither abortion nor contraception were acceptable by most Americans. Now, most couples (non-Catholic, that is) I know who get married automatically go on contraception. I think most of them really wouldn't do so if it weren't for the fact that they were taught that it was okay to do and were exposed to it all their lives. We're approaching a scary point soon when most people will accept abortion just because it's been around all their lives. NOW is the time to turn this place around! littleflower+JMJ
yeah it really needs a change of heart........in all of us......onthe masses level this culture of death has really blinded our society today to where we can't tell the difference between day (whats right) and nite (whats wrong)
M.SIGGA
Abortion is just one part of the culture of death, so it would take an extreme shift in american society to eliminate abortion totally. Since the culture of death in different forms is ingrained into to the minds and psyche of people on both sides of the abortion debate, i think it would really take a miracle to change this society. It's going to continue as a one by one conversion battle.
littleflower+JMJ
i think aboriton is the root of it....if not a biiiiig part of it.... as long as we continue to okay killing babies then we will never be able to fully recognize Life in any other part ...... and we can continue fooling ourselves like we've been doing which why everythign has gotten so bad....abortion is evil....in its uttermost form ever possible......and its spread (contraceptives, euthasia, etc) like Blessed Mother Theresa of Calcutta said...i f we are not surprised by the killing of a innocent child from the womb, how can we be surprised to hear of other killings? but like you said, sigga, also reminds me of another quote from her....'disorder of society is due to the disorder of the family" which i think you were talking about..... mom25angels
I wanted to add---hope lies in the future. Raise prolife kids, many of them, and let them loose to change it. My 11 yr old dd when asked what she wants to do when she grows up has started saying "fight abortion".
yup, I believe step #1 would ideally be to bring the traditional family back together, moms and dads marrying and having natural children and staying together (and wanting too).
