CHAP. I.--PRAISE OF THE PHILIPPIANS.

I have greatly rejoiced with you in our Lord Jesus Christ, because ye have followed the example(3) of true love [as displayed by God], and have accompanied, as became you, those who were bound in chains, the fitting ornaments of saints, and which are indeed the diadems of the true elect of God and our Lord; and because the strong root of your faith, spoken of in days(4) long gone by, endureth even until now, and bringeth forth fruit to our Lord Jesus Christ, who for our sins suffered even unto death, [but] "whom God raised froth the dead, having loosed the bands of the grave."(5) "In whom, though now ye see Him not, ye believe, and believing, rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory; "(6) into which joy many desire to enter, knowing that "by grace ye are saved, not of works,"(7) but by the will of God through Jesus Christ.

THE MARTYRDOM OF IGNATIUS

CHAP. II.--IGNATIUS IS CONDEMNED BY TRAJAN.

For there is but one God, who made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that are in them; and one Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, whose kingdom may I enjoy." Trajan said, "Do you mean Him who was crucified under Pontius Pilate?" Ignatius replied, "I mean Him who crucified my sin, with him who was the inventor of it,(12) and who has condemned [and cast down] all the deceit and malice of the devil under the feet of those who carry Him in their heart." Trajan said, "Dost thou then carry within thee Him that was crucified?" Ignatius replied, "Truly so; for it is written, 'I will dwell in them, and walk in them.'"(1) Then Trajan pronounced sentence as follows: "We command that Ignatius, who affirms that he carries about within him Him that was crucified, be bound by soldiers, and carried to the great [city] Rome, there to be devoured by the beasts, for the gratification of the people." When the holy martyr heard this sentence, he cried out with joy, "I thank thee, O Lord, that Thou hast vouchsafed to honour me with a perfect love towards Thee, and hast made me to be bound with iron chains, like(2) Thy Apostle Paul." Having spoken thus, he then, with delight, clasped the chains about him; and when he had first prayed for the Church, and commended it with tears to the Lord, he was hurried away by the savage(3) cruelty of the soldiers, like a distinguished ram(4) the leader of a goodly flock, that he might be carried to Rome, there to furnish food to the bloodthirsty beasts.
THE FIRST EPISTLE OF CLEMENT TO THE CORINTHIANS (CHAP. I to CHAP. LIX) - Date: 96/7 AD
Is that 7 years after the death of Christ? Or 96 AD?

Im still on that whole "How did we get the name Jesus?" thingy in my head.
I know at some point this is gonna come to a head (I dont mean here) and I need to be ready.

And not to be arguementive...but...

Since Im pretty sure English wasnt around when this specific epistle was written does it show the actual name in the actual language? Or is it just in English only?

Mind you again, I am not arguing the point to be a pain.
When someone accuses me of using the name Jesus Christ and that it may possibly not be the Son of God, second person of the Holy Trinity, that I am referring to, I have a very big problem with that.

Although I cannot decipher their arguement for figuring who Jesus Christ is. But I am pretty sure we are not discussing the same person. I am not even sure if they acknowledge the divinity of Christ, then again, I am not even sure if they acknowledge Christ at all.

If you think thats confusing...step into my brain. :sadder:

Peace.
