Norseman82
Norseman, It's horrible, the abortionists can come pick up your child without you knowing and give her an abortion, but if a teenager is baptized without their parent's permission, then the church can be sued... Another thing we can thank the protestant mentality for. God Bless, ironmonk I can only vouch for what I've seen, and what I've seen is permissiveness. Loss of Catholic identity? Oh, sure, but is it because of protestantism or secularism? I think if we work with protestants to combat this secular immorality we can be a good witness to the separated brethren. Some may come back to the fold. Pro-life efforts are a good beginning, from my personal experiences. And from what I've seen, there are some protestants that are more Catholic than some Catholics I've known!! (sad but true...) cmotherofpirl
Norseman you are right of course, but we must remember this is a protestant country. Catholics are tolerated here. THat is fine by me, I am a Catholic before I am an American. Isn't it funny guys, you don't see any "feminists" out there protestin these clothes. But is it better or worse than in some of the "Catholic" countries of Europe (save for Ireland and Poland)?
Jake Huether
Where are the parents? Don't parents care anymore? I take a look at the younger generation these days and if I said half the things I've heard some of them say I would have needed major dental work! (Maybe not literally, but you get the picture......) My sentiments exactly! I was at Wallgreens yesterday evening. I saw a 3 or 4 year old with a MINI skirt. And I don't mean above the knees. We're talking you could see the bottom of her butt cheeks! Good God, please come soon! I beaver dam near smacked the mother. But I couldn't say anything. Shoot! If I'd have said something, I would have been the pervert for looking! You see how that works. The devil is a tricky one. Twisting good to look bad and bad to look good. It's so twisted, we are bound to hold our thoughts in, and swallow what good we have! Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ in attonement for our sins and those of the whole world. For the Sake of His Sorriful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. For the Sake of His Sorriful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. For the Sake of His Sorriful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. For the Sake of His Sorriful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. mp15
FYI, "bling bling" means money. It's not sexual. As for the shirt, I think it's totally outrageous. What's wrong with normal clothes? Uhhhhhhhhhhhh, yea right. It may mean something else, but when it is strategically placed on a girls back side then I'm affraid it's meaning has been subverted to mean something else intirely. Nathan, if you saw a girl (who was no more than 11 or 12 years old) walking down the street with "bling, bling" sewn to her pantaloons @ each cheek what would you think the message was? That her butt was worth $$$$$$, or that this could be bought with $$$$$$$$, or maybe it's meant to conveay "hey look at this, isn't it nice". Either way you look at it, it does carry a sexual connotation when it is used as it was. I feel slightly concerned that you can't see that. Thomas Michael
And the key factor in all of this is: These little prepubescent girls don't know any better. Unless they're clued in by someone about what "sexy" is, they don't see the sexual connotations of, say, a spaghetti-strap halter top. All they understand is that this is what their big sisters are wearing, this is what their favorite girl stars on TV are wearing, this is what some of their friends will eventually be wearing, and that Mommy is such a meanie because she won't let her have the kind of clothes that all her friends have. For them is all a matter of what's in style. And when toy makers start making these fashions for the Barbies and other girl dolls out there, you know it's gotten way out of hand. Some mothers aren't free from blame, either, and I don't mean those who give into their daughters' whining. I think we're starting to see the after-effects of those teenage girls raised on Madonna now becoming mommies. Some are intentionally dressing their toddlers up like Britney or Beyonce or Selena, and all they see is that their little angels look so cute, not that they look like miniature versions of porn stars. Like I said, I hope there's a major backlash coming soon. Edited September 9, 2003 by Thomas Michael
mp15
In today's society do any of you really believe that the girls that are wearing this stuff really don't know what the messages are conveying? I find it highly unlikely that they don't know. Maybe some don't, but I would be willing to bet that the vast majority do. That's the sad part. BullnaChinaShop
I'm disturbed by having writing no matter what it says on the butts of any little girls clothing. The only purpose is to draw ones eyes to that part of the body. Turning little girls that may or may not realize it into sexual objects. This has disgusted me since the first time I saw it. Donna
Birgitta (there!)... please give a link to this JCPenny circular, if you can. I searched in my area the on-line circular... up to Page 40 (ugh!)... and still couldn't find it. P.S. I guess I'm still kinda young, even at 40, too. Donna
Jake, if a thoughtful, sincere man of any age pointed out to me the mini-skirt my little girl was wearing, I think I would think about it, even if I reacted nastily. Men (young and old) take note! I think there's a lot you can do in this area. Think about it: if the females dressed like this had had a father or older brother or anyone close to them who loved them and pointed these things out at the least, things might be different. It doesn't have to be tricky: once, when my girls saw an ad or something w/ these mini tank dresses, I said, "Isn't that sad? This is just like underwear, and they're wearing it in public." Or ask, "what do the Blessed Mother's clothes look like?" I guess the above might be for girls you already know. But at least pray Maria Goretti for them (we'll all be invoking St. Maria all day!)... but Jake and all others maybe God would ask you to say something and don;'t worry about it not being perfect! P.S. I've been known to reprimand severly the youngsters swearing on the playground.
Lil Red
Those shorts/pantaloons make me really mad. What makes me madder is the parents that let their kids wear them. I'm sorry, my 3year old (if I had a daughter) doesn't need to be wearing shorts that say "Sexy Thang" on them. 23 year old guys (and older) don't need to be looking at my 3 year old daughter like that!!! It's sick and wrong!!!!!!! And you know what else? Bikinis for the under 10 age. I'm sorry, we don't need to be accentuating something that girls that age don't have!!! Even if they did, do we really want perverts looking at their chest? NO!!!!!!
Dave
Reminds me of all these beauty pageants for young girls. Y'all remember when JonBenet Ramsey was murdered, and there was all this footage on the news of her in beauty pageants? They showed her, for example, dressed in a Las Vegas showgirl outfit and other "glamorous" outfits, wearing make-up, doing bump-and-grinds, etc. Most people here are probably way too young to remember Shirley Temple's movies, as am I, and yet, for her time, she was cute! No makeup, sexy clothes, or anything like that. By today's standards, she'd probably be considered ugly. And yet, she looked more classy than many young girls today! Lil Red
Dave, I agree. Girls (it seems) have to be pretty and be made up, etc. What about those girls who feel they aren't pretty? What is our society telling them about where they belong in this society? I'll tell what it's saying, it's saying you are not pretty enough, nor will you ever be, so get plastic surgery, get a boob job, have low self-esteem, or better yet, just kill yourself so we don't have to deal with you. Sad. :(
BlueRose
This might be a little late in the conversation, but I just checked out the Abercrombie website to check out what all this "buzz" that I've been hearing is about. Oh. My. Gosh. No wonder the percentages of "High School Seniors Who Have Had Sex" are up in the - I believe - 80's. No wonder "nice" girls who dress appropriately and BEHAVE properly continue to get stepped on by crappy guys. With all THAT garbage out there, it's like a brainwash system. It keeps getting worse and worse, slipping through every seam in entertainment. Desensatizing. DEHUMANIZING. So much for any plans of mine to grow up and get married. At the rate things are going, I'll be extremely lucky to find a guy that hasn't been totally jaded by all this carp.
