i thought this was an interesting thing to ask............

since many say, "i couldnt' run away any longer, the Church found me! " (the famous, you can run but you can't hide scenerio! lol) and then i hear others say "I couldn't wait any longer, i knew I wanted to be Catholic!" (jumping off the diving board into the deep end while doing 360's!)

and some say......BOTH! :D ^_^

ps. option 2 is suppose to be "I chose the Church" mea culpa

I was quite happy with my church, until I started looking at Catholicism. I really, really didn't want to be Catholic.

I was always taught to hate the Catholic Church, however, I always wanted to learn about Catholicism. When I met my first true Catholic I started asking question after question and she took me to a Mass and from there on I was determined to be Catholic

Like hsmom, I was very happy at my other church, and had many close friends ... once I started looking into Catholicism, though, I couldn't get the Catholic Church out of my head.

It got to the point, though, that I could no longer in good conscience commune at my church, so it was then that I made the decision. I began RCIA a few weeks later ... the rest is history.

From the moment I walked into my first Cathedral (Canterbury, which was built Catholic) the Church had me. It took me 10 years to realize it fully, but the "Hound of Heaven" wouldn't let me go.

peace...

For me, I had always had an interest in Catholicism from a curiosity standpoint and I finally attended my first Mass in 2002. It was everything I thought it could be and it was love at first sight.

The Church "chose" me, definitely. Once I started learning about her, I couldn't get her out of my head, as others have said. It was like I started recognizing the Real Thing from the paler copy I'd known all my life. It didn't take a terribly long time (probably two months) for me to realize that I *had* to become Catholic, whatever difficulties might arise. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't. It's just not an option.

The Catholic Church seems to have a higher call to real holiness than any other I've found. The trick seems to be to aspire to and work toward purity without losing the heart of one's devotion. Many people fall off on either side--sin or empty legalism. But the narrow way of Christ is amazing.

The adventure is just beginning for me.

i see answering the Truth and becoming Catholic as a true surrender for Holiness and what is True.....for the One you love!

Oh yes, the Hound of Heaven definitely got me. Like others, I did not want to be Catholic. I attribute that to all of the misconceptions I had! I did not want to become a member of the Catholic Church that fundamentalists taught against - yet this was not the Catholic Church!

The church chose me without a doubt, I never really thought about religion, then all of a sudden the interest came up "where do we all come from, why are we here, ect" and I was pulled to the Catholic church and just driven to live my life out as a devout Catholic to the best of my ability!
