Hi Phatmass Community!

My name is Tim, and I'm from Dallas. I discovered Phatmass about a year and a half ago when I was looking for Catholic wallpaper on the net. I came back a couple of weeks ago to update my wallpaper collection and saw how much the site had changed so I explored and found the phorum. I spent the last couple of weeks reading the Q&A forum, and I am very impressed with the quality of questions asked and the solid answers given by our wonderful Theology experts.

A little about myself... I'm a cradle Catholic who really didn't learn about my faith until my sophomore year in Highschool. That's when I stopped going to CCD classes (they ended after Confirmation my Freshman year) and the Pastor started teaching a one hour lesson at the youth group meeting. I learned more about my religion in those two years than I had in my entire life. I felt a call to the Priesthood, but I wasn't sure enough of it so I went to college and majored in music. After two years, I just wasn't happy. During summer break, I started listening to Catholic tapes while I was driving instead of the radio. I had picked up a tape of Fr. John Corapi that told of his life story. I listened to it, and was very moved by his message. At the end of the tape, it automatically flipped to side "b" and began playing. The only thing on that side was a message from Fr. Corapi saying "This message is for any man discerning a vocation: If you feel the call to any degree, seek it out! Go to the seminary and you'll know for sure. Do not be lukewarm!" I think that's almost word for word, but it was three years ago, so I can't be sure. That cemented it for me, and I talked to the Vocations Director the next day. The application process was long and difficult, but I entered the seminary in the Fall of 2002. The first semester went well, and I cannot begin to tell you how much spiritual direction helped me. The second semester I fell into depression, and after much soul searching and discernment I decided that although I felt I would be a good Priest, I was not given the call to Celibacy. I desire a family too intensely to be happy as a Celibate man. I recognize the beauty of Celibacy, and it's importance to the Priesthood much more fully than I did before, though. As someone who has been there, all I can say to those men discerning is to take Fr. Corapi's advice. I'm a better person for having tried, and you'll always wonder if you don't seek it out to it's conclusion; wether it be ordination or the return to normal life.

After being out of the seminary for a year (waiting tables in the meantime), I've decided to pursue a career in nursing. My sister and brother-in-law are both nurses, and I think I would be happy with that career.

Well, that's me in a nutshell. I look forward to getting to know everyone better!

I've played for about ten years. I have much respect for flute and piccolo players. They're the only other instruments that take about as much air to play as a tuba. Now, oboe players....that's a different story. Actually, all double reeded instruments should be burned. In a flame with the intensity of a thousand suns! :)
