L5
Are you culpable for mortal sin because of actions that happen in a dream? Like, if I dreamt I was shooting tons of people with a bazooka, should I go to confession?

cmotherofpirl
You don't commit a mortal sin by accident.
BurkeFan
Nope, so sayeth Augustine. Dreams you don't control at all... some can even be placed there by the enemy, I think.
StColette
Yep Dave, you've got that right, I wish I could find that Bible passage again that says "not all dreams come from God" so we must be cautious with them. * goes to hunt down that passage lol *
Paladin D
However, from what I've been told... if you for example dwelled on impure sexual thoughts THEN dreamed about them soon after, it probally would be a sin. Though I'm not sure.
StColette
well " dwelling on those thoughts before falling asleep " is the sin itself, because thoughts are just as bad as actions

Antonius
Having done research on lucid dreams, i believe it is possible to control our dreams consciously. I also believe, though without the research, that we always control our dreams, though subconciously. A sin is a conscious action, especially a mortal sin. If you were in a lucid dream, and you chose to have sex with somoene you weren't married to, then I would say you should go to Confession and talk to the priest. I know that there are some Buddhists who believe that in lucid dreams your choices still count for karma like they do in the real world. Ask a priest, or move this thread to another forum besides open mic.
Iacobus
The reason I love to sleep I can't sin. LOL! A semmie told me once "Sleep all you can, saves time in confession. Unless you are supposed to be working than sleeping makes you have to go for solth." LOL!
