catholicguy
OK well ask the person, since I was born 3 weeks premature, was I not a human until three weeks after I was born? If I WAS a human before then, then why is it that a baby in the womb that could live outside of the womb (if premature or delivered early in an emergency, ect) is not a human until he leaves his mothers womb? Why is this baby not a human being if he is exactly the same as he was before being delivered, yet he is merely in a different place. Do I cease to be a human if I am inside my home, but when I walk outside, I now become a human or make some form of inherent metamorphasis? Why is it that no other scientific belief would state that a person or thing undergoes such a radical change merely by changing environments. The change caused by the environment being ignored, but merely by changing environment or place, there is not one other scientific belief that would state the same in any other circumstance. This at least disproves the idea that a person becomes a human once delivered. Furthermore, the change does not occur when the person is born but when he receives his own DNA. A human being in matter is present scientifically when he has his own separate DNA. My lungs, heart, skin, etc. all have the same DNA. My tissues and even organs have all the same DNA. If something has a differing DNA, it is surely not still a part of my body. A baby is not just a tissue or an organ. He is a separate human being insofar as he has completely separate and different DNA. Now, we do not know when the soul is infused, as the Church has not defined it (St. Augustine and many Fathers and Saints have taught that the souls is infused approximately 40 days after conception, whenever the baby first kicks). It would seem logical that a baby would not receive his soul immediately at conception, for identical twins come originally from the same one cell, which spilts. Therefore, if a person were to get his soul at conception, either he would need 2 souls (or more if there are triplets, quadruplets, etc.), or each would only have a partial soul (1/2, 1/3, 1/4, etc.). Therefore, it is only logical that a human does not have a soul immediately at conception. When the soul is infused after that time period is not defined by the Church. It is open for discussion; however, those who believe in abortion, I don't think are very concerned with that. It is safe to tell them that it is impossible to know when the soul is infused; therefore, we cannot kill him who may have a soul. Even if a baby does not have a soul after a certain period of time, this would still not merit an abortion, for it would still be a contraceptive to the baby, who would surely be infused with a soul, which is, of course, also a mortal sin. I hope that can be used somewhat. God bless.
