I've only seen Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill Vol. 1 but I think the guy's a royal (expletive). Revervoir Dogs I didn't like, needless violence with a thin plot. Anyone could have made that movie, write some crazy dialogue, shoot two people having a conversation from 50 feet away, insert some nasty violence, and yoiu're done. Ridiculous.

Kill Bill Vol. 1? Quentin Tarantino is the Elmyr of film. He can mix and match what every other director has done and make a film out of it, but he does not have his own art. He's a whackjob too. Ever hear him in an interview? Kill Bill is a fun movie to watch, but that's it. You don't think about it after it's done, it poses no interesting questions other than, "Hey, I wonder if people's blood actually squirts like that?!" (By the way, the squirting blood was better done more than 30 years prior in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.)

I don't like the guy, and I still have to see Pulp Fiction, which I hear is a good movie, depite being directed by Mr. Tarantino.

Three more "by the way"s...

The writing for Pulp Fiction was done by Tarantino and another guy, but Tarantino omitted the other guy's name from the credits so he could have it say, "Written and Directed by Quentin Tarantino."

Quentin Tarantino worked in a video store and then became a director.

Kill Bill was supposed to be one movie, but the Weinsteins (the producers) made it into two films to make more money. Duh! How anyone can like a director that's more into money than art is beyond me. Steven Spielberg is a great businessman, but is a detesble director.

i like his stuff. the only one i haven't seen is jackie brown.

yes they're graphic, but i do think tarantino has his style - its over the top - and when you see one of his films you know it's his.

KB is taken from 60s & 70s hong kong action flicks. if you've ever seen those you'd understand why KB looks the way it does. yeah the dialogue was cheesy at times, but the fight scenes were great and, i think for the most part, true to the genre it was pulling from.
Reservoir Dogs - Anyone could have made that movie
Yeah, maybe. but they didn't...
Ever hear him in an interview?
haha! yes. good thing he makes films and isn't a speaker in the senate. :)

i bet there was more to it than that, but yeah, smells of elderberries for the other guy.

yeah. and lucky for him he was able to give a friend of a friend a script that ended up in harvey keitel's hands, who helped get funding and get the project going. and it didn't hurt that his timing was great - the rise of the independent film boom of the early 90s. (i wish another one of those would happen in the next few years.)

say what you want about the W brothers, but they know their stuff.
we gotta remember that the film industry is just that - an industry. its a business. it makes money (wow does it). if your movie doesn't make money then good luck making another one. i think tarantino, just like spike lee, loves the art of filmmaking, but knows good and well that he has to make money in order to keep his job. they know how to sell themselves and exploit their work, which you must do if you want to make the movies you like instead of the usual teen flick/explosion action/romantic comedy that hollywood always turns out because they know there's a stable profitable market for it. (i mean look at mel gibson - he did many of those films to earn enough money to make the passion with his own fortune. but i digress...)

i think its a little arrogant to advertise your film as "the 4th film by"...not only is it just your 4th (but then thats more than i've made! :) ) but a film isn't just made by one person alone. that's my main beef...

i think he's an interesting character. where would we be today with out tarantino? ^_^

I think Tarantino is brilliant when it comes to Writing and Directing movies. Pulp Fiction has always been my favorite, andI thought it was his last really great piece of work...until I saw Kill Bill. Kill Bill was an amazing combination of the old hong-kong martial arts movies combined with american style humor and comic book-esque action scenes. The very end of KB2 is just about the best ending in any movie ever.

He also directed (at least parts of) a film called Four Rooms, which is awful for the first half, and hilarious for the last half. It is basically 4 separate movies in one, and I know Tarentino directed at least one portion (the last one I think). :)

He is definately wierd, but I think he is, perhaps, the best director out there right now. I definately think he has his own style, and while his technique of chronology splitting wasn't an original invention, he most certainly perfected it, and shoved it into the mainstream. Moreover, anyone lacking philosophical debate need look no further than Kill Bill Vol. 2 for a deep discussion of retribution for our sins, whether people can really change their ways (a la Unforgiven) and questions of love and family.

Also, on a purely movie critique, having already defined his own style (watch Jackie Brown, Pulp Fiction, and Resevoir Dogs) he moved on with the Kill Bill movies to attempt to combine as many genres, cinematography techniques, etc as possible while keeping the movie interesting and entertaining for the audience.

Despite the absolutely horrendously excessive amounts of violence in his movies, I think hes an amazing director.

aw, c'mon, guys. the whole splitting of time thing is cool, but he does it in every movie. he won't grow up or try new things! he's so post-modern, inserting in all this pop culture.... i mean, really, how can this guy stand the test of time?
he is, perhaps, the best director out there right now
are you kidding? the lord of the rings trilogy alone is far superior in countless ways to quentin tarantino and all 4 of his films! (KB being two parts of one movie.) there is more thought, philoophy, art, and life in just those movies than quentin's own mind!

let's go back to LOTR once again. peter jackson keeps us on the edge of our seats wondering if Gollum can truly ever overcome the addiction the power of the ring, frodo constantly fights this same temptation, even being overcome by it in the end.

seriously, quentin tarantino as the best director out there is ridiculous.
