Paladin D
I've talked to a couple people about this, but I wanted further confirmation about the issue. Apostle refers to the 12, does apostle refer to a Catholic bishop? Also, can women be apostles, or ever were? Like the Virgin Mary? cappie
The bishops are the successors of the Apostles who numbered 12 then with the death of Judas Matthias was chosen bringing the number to 12 again. The other followers of Jesus are described as disciples. Mary was not an apostle being the mother of Jesus. She was the first to proclaim Christ even before the Apostles. The mother of Jesus is shown praying with the Apostles awaiting the Holy Spirit.
