toledo_jesus
I was wondering what the protocol was for addressing the bishop of your diocese. Is it simply 'Father' or is there something else that we should say? I'll post this in Open Mic as well, but I would appreciate input from the clergy. cappie
When I was a young man the title "My Lord" was used for a bishop, "Your Grace" was used for an Archbishop. In Australia we used the English terms. A Bishop was the equilalent of a Lord in the House of Lords and an Archbishop was the equilalent of a Duke. After the Vatican Council it became common to address a Bishop or Archbishop by their office, "Bishop Sean or Archbishop Sean" or using their last names e.g. "Hello Bishop O'Malley." It is common now in Australia just to use the word Father when speaking personally to a bishop but to use the more formal title when introducing a bishop. E.g " I would like to welcome Bishop .....here this morning."
