eightfoot514
I quote Pio Nono here:
If a woman cannot support a fetus before marriage, then she cannot be married.
If Mary could vow to remain ever-virgin, then why can't others, whether or not they are capable of reproducing or not? The Holy Family is supposed to be an example of love and chastity. When two people love each other and one or both happens to be barren, what are they to do, if they cannot even follow the example of Joseph and Mary? BLAZEr
It is possible for a couple who are infertile to get permission to Mary, but permission must be given by the Bishop and the permission is rare. One of the qualiites of marriage is fecundity, bringing forth offspring. It is not only one of the "goods" of marriage, it is in fact characteristic of it. If one or both people enter into marriage knowing that they are infertile, then this invalidates the union.
