Why you may ask? Because he thinks considering other's morals is the moral thing to do, even if that means simply by legal declartions. (which can have other implications such as taxes etc but let's not get distracted)
considering the other person's morals is NOT the moral thing to do if that other person's morals are wrong.

it is NOT moral for Frank to consider Bob's morals. this is b/c Bob's morals are wrong. to "consider" them or give them legal status is to accept them, which Frank cannot do. Bob does NOT have the legal right to be an immoral person.

Sweet. :D I thought you made yourself crystal clear Jeff and explained it really well! ;)

Dairygirl, good to see you posting again! :D

Of course your question has really been answered several times in previous threads you have started - Catholics believe that the Catholic church contains the fullness of Truth! It therefore stands to reason that we would hold that the Catholic church contains all Moral Truth aswell.

It would be impossible to claim that the church contains all Truth but that there are one or two moral beliefs which she holds which may only be a half truth!

It isn't within our remit to personally judge another person - God will judge us all as individuals - but it is within our remit to hold up Moral Truth and adhere to it in the way we live our own lives - as difficult as it may seem at times given the 'nomalisation' of secular belief systems! Thankfully we can draw on the bible and church tradition to guide us in this - the catechism is a great resource for guidance and well worth a read! ;)

We are called to be a light to the world and I believe it is possible to be so by holding to the morals of the church without judging other people or compromising with their morality if it differs with church teaching, by living our own lives according the moral code which the catholic church teaches, and also by showing God's love to those who don't live their lives according the Moral Truth.
You have heard it said at Phatmass by others before 'love the sinner, hate the sin'.

There is only one Moral Law.

There are varying levels of ethics, but only one morality.

People can lack morals. Lack of morals can never be accepted, only tolerated.

BAM!

We can not accept other's morals because there are no other morals.

Something is either right, or it is wrong.

If you are in the majority, do what is acceptable to continue good practices and discontinue bad ones.

If you are in the minority, the same holds true.

Dairygirl, according to your logic, the Church should allow those who think it's ok to steal, lie, murder, commit adultery, commit incest, use drugs, be racists, etc. to do so. Would you dare to say that those are things that people should be allowed to do if they see nothing wrong with them?

another logical extrapolation of dairygirl's argument would be that it is immoral to fight against abortion, which has been defined infallibly as wrong.
