Merry Go Round Anti-catholicism

I have dialoged with many anti-Catholics, many of which have been pastors, some have had a master of divinity, etc...

Something I have noticed is that many of them love to dwell on their interpretations as if they themselves where infallible. Those same men will disagree with each other, and will believe that one another are 'saved'... but they both agree that the Catholic Church is the 'anti-Christ' and that Catholics are mindless zombies that do not know the bible.... "Catholic interpretations of Scripture is a twisting of Scripture - if Catholics even read the bible."

(some on this board I do not see as anti-Catholic, I see as non-Catholic trying to learn - so please do not take this the wrong way... I'm talking about the blind ones who are not open to anything we say, and have already predistined the Catholics to be wrong because of their pride)

These 'Merry Go Round' anti-Catholics will quote scripture and spend great lengths to explain their interpretation without giving adequate info of why they believe their interpretation to be so correct... Most of them stop well after 1517 for their reasons when they do give them.

They might quote one or two Early Church Fathers (ECF), but when they do, it's only a few lines, and it's typically out of context...

They try to back up their entire arguement on a couple of lines, mixed with their interpretation. Something they do not realize is that the ECF's as individuals were not infallible... yet, they try to make them out to be, even when they do not believe in infallibility. Then, they ignore the dozens of quotes that the Catholic comes up with from the same group of men.

I call them Merry Go Rounders(MGR) because that's all they can do, is go around and around with their argument, never deviating, and just repeating... never really refuting the proof you have layed before them....

I think with the MGR's we need to remember that it is God that causes convertion, and can let them see the light, in God's time. It's hard not to get frustruted with them, but they do serve a purpose...

I think the best thing we can do is pray for them, and answer them for the save of those on the sidelines watching... It would be a waste of time to dialog one on one with MGR's who have already made up their mind that Catholics are wrong, because as Jesus said "Do not cast pearls among swine." and "Do not give what is Holy to dogs."

And as one of my favorite Saints has said:

"Don't waste your time and your energy — which belong to God — throwing stones at the dogs that bark at you on your way. Ignore them." 14 - The Way - St. Josemaria Escriva

God has a plan for them, once we know the facts have been shown to them, and they totally ignore them, we need to move on to those who are open to Christ.

hey hey... i loved how that post was kinda short... that's cool...

however... it does have a very holier-than-thou tone to it...

and don't go like..."that's because I'm right" coz that's the tone im talking about...

it's very easy to become full of pride...especially when you are right all the time... or at least think you are... and that's sin...

be careful bro...

steve,

I understand where your coming from...

But please open your heart and try to understand something....

In the Catholic Church, the Catholic does not look at himself as right...

The Catholic looks at is as the Church is right.

Many protestants have to viciously defend their own personal interpretations because they do not have 2000 years of history to pull from.

This has nothing to do with pride... It is the Church that is right, not me.

I'm just a layman... I'm not worthy to be Catholic... but there is no other place for me to go... I want to be as close to Christ as I can, and the Catholic Church is the only way I can do that.

Now, when someone says someone is "right all the time", it's normally because they have no way to prove the other wrong...

It's not me that anyone here is trying to prove wrong... They are trying to prove the Church wrong...

If the Church of God is the Pillar and Foundation of Truth (1 Tim 3:15), can the Church be wrong?

If the Church is guided in all truth by the Holy Spirit (St. John 14:16-18), can the Church be wrong?

it's very easy to become full of pride...especially when you are right all the time... or at least think you are... and that's sin...

be careful bro...

Yes, the Church does teach that is a sin... Thank you for looking out for me, and I'm sorry if sometimes my intentions are not clear... but it is not me that is right, but the Church is right.

God Bless, Love in Christ & Mary

I thought I read that the early KJVs were not abridged????

They always have been.

They used the Massorah for their OT, which the massorah was a hebrew translation of the Septuagint, 57 years after Christ left by the Jews.

The Septuagint is from 293-285 BC and was used by every Christian until 1611.
