Paladin D
Not sure if any of you have heard of him, but Tom Clancy is known for having his names on the side of game boxes such as... - Rainbow Six - Splinter Cell ...and written movies such as... - Sum of all Fears - Red October This link: http://www.clancyfaq.com/Authors.htm#tcp claims he is Catholic This link: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0002007/bio has some more information. He went to Loyola College.
BurkeFan
Yes, he is. I have seen him make statements as such. And his book, Red Rabbit, was about a plot to kill John Paul II (basing it off the actual assassination attempt), and it depicts JPII in a really cool light, I think. "Oh, shinobi," Ryan swore, and then went on. "Dan, we have reason to believe there's a contract out on the Pope." "Who?" Murray asked. "It ain't the Knights of Columbus." -Tom Clancy, Red Rabbit

Mickey's_Girl
Yeah, like, I always thought the movies were cool, but couldn't get into his books (so technical--like the Hunt for Red October opens with what seems like a two-page description of a submarine, yawn), but Red Rabbit was WAY COOL. Very fun, easy to read, great escapist/adventure reading. MG

I think Cardinal in the Kremlin is one of my favs...
BurkeFan
The nuclear bomb stuff was great, it made me look smart in my physics class when I knew what tritium was... all of his stuff is great, though, there are better books than Red Rabbit, such as Patriot Games (the book was so much better than the movie that I couldn't even finish the movie). From Red Rabbit, p 598:
It was the U.S. Navy's way of acknowledging that there was one higher loyalty than the one a man had for his country. That loyalty was to God Himself - the one power higher than that of the United States of America, and his country acknowledged that. Jack coulc feel it, here and now, carrying a gun. He could feel that fact like a physical weight on his shoulders. There were people who wanted the Pope - the Vicar of Christ on earth - dead. And that, suddenly, was massively offenseive to him. The worst street criminal gave a preist, minister, or rabbi a free pass, because there might really be a god up there, and it wouldn't do to harm is personal representative among the people. How much more would God be annoyed by the muder of His #1 Representative on Planet Earth. The Pope was a man who'd probably never hurt a single human being in his life. The Catholic Chuch was not a perfect institution - nothing with mere people in it was or ever could be. But it was founded on faith in Almighty God, and its policies rarely, if ever, strayed from love and charity.
