Does The Day Of Rest Always Have To Be On Sunday?

I go to Mass on Saturdays, does this mean I can take a day of rest on Saturday, instead of Sunday? Or does it always have to be Sunday? Thank you in advance.

PaladinD,

Actually, when you go to Mass on Saturday night, it counts for Sunday because it is Sunday - just the vigil of Sunday. That's why, traditionally, no work is done after evening prayer on Saturday...because it's Sunday. ;)

To answer your question a bit more broadly, yes, the day of rest must be taken on Sunday because of the Church's mandate. If, however, your job or circumstances keep you from observing the day of rest on Sunday, then any other day of the week would be fine, with permission. Hope this helps.

Yours,
Pio Nono
