JP2Iloveyou
Robyn, I have not meant to attack you. If I have, I am sincerely sorry. I was just trying to formulate a sound argument that I was hoping you would respond to. If you don't want to, that's your own decision. I would suggest you read other wources though from Catholic and Protestant points of view. Like I said, by questioning your faith, you will only learn more about it. This will make you stronger in it, or you might find out that you were wrong and decide to switch churches. Either way, the outcome is a positive thing. Robyn
Like I said, by questioning your faith, you will only learn more about it. That's cool JP2Iloveyou. Just being here has strengthened my faith :) Edited September 11, 2003 by Robyn
JP2Iloveyou
well, that's the key. By not asking questions, we remain ignorant. Blind faith is not a good thing.
Unshackled
jp2believe me, I have considered other options. listening to a devout Protestant minister is what got me to question my Catholic faith. The fact that he raised questions I didn't have the answers to made me go and find them. After researching these issues from a Protestant and Catholic point of view, I am thouroughly convinced that the Catholic Church is the one, true Church founded by Christ almost 2000 years ago. I've done the research and checked out the facts, I'm now challenging you to do the same. Don't just spout off old rhetoric and criticize people. Engage their argument and argue based on facts, not opinion. Sorry JP2 etc, I was born, baptised, brought up by devout catholic parents. I attended catholic primary and secondary school and was thoroughly educated in catholic beliefs until I discovered discrepencies in the beliefs of the catholic church and God's word. I was taught that all protestants were going to hell and that only catholics could go to heaven because we were the only ones to know the truth. I now have a very personal relationship with God with the fruits to justify my beliefs. To explain this would take too long and unfortunately challenge much of your theory on religion. Most of my family are still catholic and have no problem with my position but I believe that I am now able to hear God's direction for my life and impact the world for Jesus much better than if I was restrained by the rules and regulations of the catholic church. jasJis
Unshackled, None of us are 'born' Catholic, though we are often Baptised as babies and are then "cradle" Catholics. I too was a Cradle Catholic and attended 12 years of Catholic School. What I knew and accepted of God and Jesus at 24 is nothing compared to what I know and accept of God and Jesus at 40+. I was challenged to 'get right with Jesus' by non-Catholic friends. I met that Challenge and found the source of intimacy with Jesus in the Catholic Church. What I've learned in the last 10 years is 100 times more than what I learned in the previous 30. Some of us are slow learners. I certainly was. I now teach teen age kids about the Church. Some who have attended Catholic schools, some who haven't. Only the fast learners realize how little they know. I know you are lacking in your understanding of what the Catholic Church teaches. Your prior post screams it out when you post that the Catholic Church teaches only Catholics will get to heaven and that Protestants are all wrong. That is so not true and wrong and the correct teaching has been repeatedly been posted and discussed here in these recent threads. I don't think you will challenge many theories on religion here. We've all been there and done that. The vast majority here at PhatMass were either non-Catholics or fallen away Catholics that found or returned to the Church. Keep posting here and don't worry about us. With an open mind and heart, you'll find it will more likely be your theories of religion that are challenged. If you think that is a teaching of the Catholic Church , no wonder you are confused. What rules restrained you from know God when you were a CAtholic? mp15
What rules restrained you from know God when you were a CAtholic? I will answer that one, even though it wasn't directed at me. I would say it was the ones they didn't like or felt were too hard to follow  Edited September 11, 2003 by mp15
vianney
I was taught that all protestants were going to hell and that only catholics could go to heaven because we were the only ones to know the truth. Im sorry you were taught that because that is NOT what the Catholic Church believes.
