Robyn
I was cooking Chow Mein for dinner tonite and got thinking. If we ALL made Chow Mein and looked at the end result, we would all have a DIFFERENT looking meal, even though we followed the same recipe. Christianity is a bit like that. Our Chow Mein is God, but we all have our different methods of reaching him. I just love these object lessons God gives me!
Guest Son of Satan
If you religious freaks would just get on with your useless arguements and remain deceived from the truth, then my father Satan would be able to ignore you for a while and continue his manipulation of these bigoted and self centred Catholics. ironmonk
Acts 20:28 Keep watch over yourselves and over the whole flock of which the holy Spirit has appointed you overseers, 6 in which you tend the church of God that he acquired with his own blood. 29 I know that after my departure savage wolves will come among you, and they will not spare the flock. 30 And from your own group, men will come forward perverting the truth to draw the disciples away after them. 2 Peter 3:15 And consider the patience of our Lord as salvation, as our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, also wrote to you, 16 speaking of these things as he does in all his letters. In them there are some things hard to understand that the ignorant and unstable distort to their own destruction, just as they do the other scriptures. 17 Therefore, beloved, since you are forewarned, be on your guard not to be led into the error of the unprincipled and to fall from your own stability. There is only One Way to Christ. All churches started by men leaving the Church founded by Christ do not have the full truth. They only have part. But God is merciful, and if someone truely beleives that they are in the Church built by Christ, then they are Catholic by desire..... Now, if someone finds out that they are not in the True Church, and finds the True Church, but chooses not to be in the True Church founded by Christ, built on the Apostles, then there is no chance for salvation for them, unless they enter the Church built by Christ. Our Chow Mein is God, but we all have our different methods of reaching him. I just love these object lessons God gives me! That's just the problem... All our recipes aren't the same! If Chow Mein (i.e. God) called for Soy Souce, but none was added - then it wouldn't be the same Chow Mein. God calles us to recieve him in the Eucharist, and accept his gifts of Grace through the Sacramental life as a Catholic. But if we don't follow it, and toss out the recipe, can we really say that the end result will be the same?

Donna
robyn, hello. remember the parable of the good samaritan, and how he entrusted the man who'd fell among robbers, to the innkeeper? maybe others would rather have it thus: that the good samaritan [Jesus] merely plunked him down on the side of the road and said, "you don't need a caregiver [a pastor: one who feeds and protects]; you don't need an inn [a visible structure within to be cared for]. Here's the book [a bible or manual] on how to get better. That's all you need."
Cure of Ars
Robyn is right in a way. There is a lot of freedom as Christian’s to express, live, and pray our faith. Some will get closer to Jesus from listening to Catholic Hip Hop, others from Gregorian chant. So there is a subjective aspect to our faith. Some like to pray the rosary others like to speak in tongues. But there are other things that are essential that we are not at liberty to change or go it our own way. As Catholics we have a lot of freedom because the Church is there to make sure that we do not fall into the pit by denying truth over my own personal likings. We can be crazy and wild, without fear, just as long as we stay in bounds within the doctrine and teaching authority of our Catholic faith. Just look at all the different Catholic cultures their are to realize this. We have consitantly take pagan cultures throught out history and baptism them Catholic. It is our present job to do this again to our own culture. Chow mein has a lot of varieties but there are some changes that will make it not chow main anymore. Dave
Robyn: I'm sorry, but the logic you use is the same kind used by those who claim one religion (Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, witchcraft, etc.) is as good as another. Such people claim that all religions lead to God and are different but equal. Well, we know that's false! Edited September 3, 2003 by Dave

ironmonk
Acts 16:17 She began to follow Paul and us, shouting, "These people are slaves of the Most High God, who proclaim to you a way of salvation." 18 She did this for many days. Paul became annoyed, turned, and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." Then it came out at that moment. Here we have a woman preaching that the Apostles had "a way" of salvation. Yet, Paul knew she had a demon, but yet, she would appear to others as a typical Christian... What does this tell us? When looking at all the other scriptures that speak of the same subject... there is only One Way to Christ.... One Faith.... One Truth.... As Christians, we have are bound by obligation for fraternal correction of our fellow Christians.... We are not saying that "you are wrong".... We are saying "Here is the full and complete Truth".... When what we post is contradicted by others, we must point out why those contradictions are wrong. We are not saying that non-Catholics are going to Hell... We are saying that if you truely believe that you are living the way you think God wants you to, then you are Catholic by desire and part of the Catholic Church.... Just because we say that all the other churches only have part of the truth, does not mean we think they are going to hell.... unlike many anti-Catholics who say Catholics are hell bound... We believe God is loving and merciful, and we know that True Believers will be in all denominations of Catholicism (aka protestants)... A denomination is a split off - a divide of the original... they all came from Catholicism, so they all have some of the Truth.... but just like Acts 20:30 says, that True Believers will be drawn out of the Church... we believe that.... and we know they are our brothers and sisters. geetarplayer
I have a problem with that. I don't like to say that Christianity is "more correct" than another religion. Call me naïve, but I like the "All roads lead to Rome," philosophy. I don't think Christianity is the only way to go. True, it's a very nice way to go, but it's not the only way. Now witchcraft, paganism, etc... I agree is definately not the way to go. But I think if you live your life with a general love for all God's creatures, God will judge you based on that. Not based on your religions, because, I hate to say it but let's face it, most of the religions today are full of man-made rituals. I think our God is a fair and righteous God of forgiveness, because He ultimately wants to see us all happy. I think Jesus had it right: the most important rule is to love. It all comes down to love. "Love all, serve all, live long, rock hard." (-my friend Heidi) -Mark
