Thy Geekdom Come
I recently read a post on a thread on one of the phorums relating the Democratic Economic Policies to Robin Hood. Now, we all know that Robin Hood would have been a Republican, had he not been a monarchist. First, as a crusader, he was concerned with religious matters as well as with war. He also lived chastely with Maid Marian. He also had Friar Tuck, a pious Franciscan, in his ranks. Purely conservative values. However, it is terribly absurd to relate his ideals to the Democratic Economic Policies. For starters, he fought against Prince John and his government (mostly his barons), who were unjustly taxing the native Saxon people in a most ridiculous fashion. Furthermore, Prince John had no plan to spend this money on the good of the Saxon people, but rather to help his elite, the Normans, to settle into England comfortably. Unfair taxing in excessive quantities? This is a staple of the Democratic Party, not the Republican. I content that Prine John was Democratic-leaning and that the comparison between the government of Normandy and the top American financial brackets is faulty, because the comparison is much closer between the Normans and the Democratic Party. As for the actions of Robin Hood, he stole from those who were made rich unjustly by Prince John. He stole the money which belonged by right to the people who paid it earlier as taxes. This seems to me to be very comparable to conservative tax cuts. The Democratic Party takes money from us, without our authorization, and spends it foolishly. Robin Hood is like George W. Bush, returning the money to the poor who rightfully own it. Therefore, I conclude that the Democratic Party is an evil organization which wants to kill off King Richard the Lionhearted and take over all of Saxony! Counterpoint, anyone? Colleen
Little John: Robin, are we good guys or bad? You know, our robbing the rich to feed the poor. Robin: Rob? Tsk Tsk! That's a naughty word, we never rob. We just borrow it from those who could afford it. Little John: Borrow? Boy, are we in debt!
