Oik
Hey, I need some scriptural basis for judging the actions of others. NOTE: This is different from judging a person, the soul of people, the intertions of people, or the salvation of people.
catholicguy
1 Cor. 2: 14-16 "But the sensual man perceiveth not these things that are of the Spirit of God; for it is foolishness to him, and he cannot understand, because it is spiritually examined. But the spiritual man judgeth all things; and he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that we may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ." 14 "The sensual man"... The sensual man is either he who is taken up with sensual pleasures, with carnal and worldly affections; or he who measureth divine mysteries by natural reason, sense, and human wisdom only. Now such a man has little or no notion of the things of God. Whereas the spiritual man is he who, in the mysteries of religion, takes not human sense for his guide: but submits his judgment to the decisions of the church, which he is commanded to hear and obey. For Christ hath promised to remain to the end of the world with his church, and to direct her in all things by the Spirit of truth. (Note from Douay-Rheims version) "But we have the mind of Christ" is clearly talking about how the Church can state what is morally acceptable and what is not. He who follows the Church (the "spiritual man") can judge actions based upon these teachings. Hope that helps.

catholicguy
St. Titus 3:10,11, "A man that is a heretic, after the first and second admonition, avoid: Knowing that he, that is such an one, is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned by his own judgment." If one should avoid a heretic after first and second admonition, then clearly you 1) judged the actions to be wrong, then 2) told him they were wrong, and 3) did so at least two times. St. Matthew 18: 15-17, "But if thy brother shall offend against thee, go, and rebuke him between thee and him alone. If he shall hear thee, thou shalt gain thy brother. And if he will not hear thee, take with thee one or two more: that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may stand. And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican." The same is true here as above. You have now corrected your brother twice and taken him to the Church to be corrected. It is clear, then, that you are judging his actions to be incorrect, as the Church is also seen to be able to do, as was done with my first passage of the "spiritual man" who hath "the mind of Christ." God bless. Edited July 14, 2004 by catholicguy
