Mickey's_Girl
Okay, so yesterday was my big meet-with-the-priest day. I was kind of nervous, for whatever reason...I guess because I was still trying to get a read on what he was like, and still couldn't tell. "Timid convert fears blow-off by possible hippie priest!" In any case, Fr. Daryl was *very* nice right away. We talked about my journey into the church, my background, etc., and then conversation sort of swung around to various problems in the church (lack of orthodoxy, poor catechesis, especially in Catholic schools). Fr. Daryl actually brought these things up, and was talking about historical background (he's been a priest since at least the 60s) and his experience in secondary schools, etc. He's been at this parish for two years, he said, so I think he's still adjusting to their ways. We talked for an hour! He seems at once orthodox and balanced (of course, orthodoxy IS balanced! LOL!). He told me that, regarding RCIA, he generally likes to have people go through the whole thing for several reasons: there is a LOT to assimilate about Catholicism when you don't grow up in it, there's a great connection to be made with the other people in the group, and he also feels that being received at Easter (rather than at another time) "makes the biggest impression on your head". So, he said, although technically I could be received earlier, he'd like to start me out in the regular RCIA. That was fine with me--and the cool thing is, he said he teaches most of it! So it will be a chance to get to know him better, and practically be the same as individual instruction anyway. I'm so excited! This is so cool! Yippee!!! Sojourner
That's great, MG!! I'm glad you had a good meeting with Fr. Daryl. When do you start RCIA?
Mickey's_Girl
Well, they've got two "inquiry" meetings coming up, one on Sunday night (I won't be there, thus I wanted to talk to Fr. Daryl) and one on August 1, and then they're going to see how many people they have, and decide how they want to set it up. He thought that it would start the second-to-last or last week of August, due to the fact that Easter is quite early this year. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to attend, because I teach 3 nights a week, and Wed. night I teach quite late. (I'm used to things being on Wed. nights, LOL!) But he said that it would very likely be Monday (as they've done in the past) or Sunday night. So those would work for me. MG
