That is mean. I'm a life long catholic and I have protestants in my family who would give the shirt off of their backs. Read corinthians...it's all about love. If you understand all mysteries but do not have love, you are a clanging gong. I know many protestants who would make it to heaven before some catholics, and it's not what you know but what you do. This whole thread is not funny and as a devout catholic who cares about healing wounds in the christian community, I have to speak up. You should all be ashamed.

may i ask what part about it was mean?

the laughing? it was a lighthearted conversation on the radion and all of the participants laughed too

the comment about discrediting protestantism? its truth, thats what happens, im just relaying the story to you, not trying to criticize them

the "im glad im Catholic"? again, its truth, i love being Catholic, am i not able to take pride in something when something i know is false is presented to me?

please help me understand

protestantism is a heresy.

not all protestants, however, can be charged with the sin of heresy, because to be a heretic you have to at one point have known the Divinely Revealed Catholic Faith and then rejected it.

however, to say protestantism is wrong is not only accurate, it is a Divine Truth.

it is not unloving, it is Truth.

be careful before you arbitrarily charge people with being unloving.

that's a quote from a protestant which illustrates the fact that protestantism is wrong.

Not all catholics sit around joking about protestants. I want the protestants who read this post not to run away from us, that we are here for them with open arms, and that we will be patient and explain our teaching to them in a loving way.

Of course we want them to see things our way, but that doesn't always happen, and so you have to treat them with love still. Don't make it any harder for them than it has to be. Public slamming doesn't help anything. We should not joke about them, even if they joke about us.

Now joking about ourselves is something different...like the "you know you are a catholic nerd when" thing. But it breaks my heart to make protestant jokes, and it's something that I never do. The Pope said that people searching should NEVER be judged...that they are doing the best that they can.

One way to judge it is to see if the comment make a Protestant feel safe to dialogue in the thread. I doubt any protestant would feel welcomed to dialogue by that comment. They would probably leave this site and never come back.

According to the rules of this board....

Prohibited Content:

Personal Attacks- a post or comment that has nothing to do with the topic, but is specifically meant to upset or criticize another person or group of people. This includes, but is not limited to, calling people "heretics" (used in a derogatory manner), "democrooks", etc.

Negative Criticism of Other Religions- a post or comment that negatively criticizes (as opposed to constructively criticizes) a different religion in a way that is harmful to open ecumenical dialogue.

"The Church knows that she is joined in many ways to the baptized who are honored by the name of Christian, but do not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety or have not preserved unity or communion under the successor of Peter." Those "who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized are put in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church." - Catechism of the Catholic Church, 838
