"Third Way" Monasteries of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns

Georgetown Carmel in California asked Rev. Father Stephen Watson who was a Definitor from 2003-2009 regarding petitioning to change their juridical status (from under the jurisdiction of the Ordinary to being under the vigilance of the Order) and he replied in the affirmative, and that they could also include a petition to amend their 1990 constitutions to recognize the Father General. That’s what is now known as the “Third Way.”

Said compromise legislation is a hybrid meaning this third type has the following as its heading: MONASTERIES THAT HAVE CHOSE THE 1990 CONSTUTIONS but have obtained from the Apostolic See the faculty to follow the 1991 Constitutions in all points that refer to the Superior General.

 

Mother Miriam of Jesus (Buffalo Carmel) wrote to the association that they finally petitioned the Holy See in order to re-establish their bond with the Fathers.  This list is probably not yet updated by the Generalate since according to Mother Miriam they received a favorable reply.
