ArciMoto
"Laudate Deum" which is the Pope's (just released) thoughts about climate change, IMHO is not going to do much to change the minds of conservative Catholics in the USA because seems pople consider local tribal connections more important than God's honest truth https://www.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/apost_exhortations/documents/20231004-laudate-deum.html Think of it this way, it took three hundred sixty years for Catholic leadership to admit that the earth orbits the sun Truth is the Catholic conservative view back in the day was, the earth was at the center of the universe, so the Catholic party line was that the sun orbited around the earth It takes time given human nature to give up ingrained un-scientific beliefs AND have come to the conclusion, the only way to speed up the process of scientific enlightenment is to point out things I learned about being introduced to the topic of man made climate change decades ago Basically it was my dumb luck as an undergrad to have been able to informally have one on one discussions w/ guys (REVELLE and KEELING) who knew their stuff and did pioneering work in climate science https://revelle.ucsd.edu/about/roger-revelle.html https://scrippsco2.ucsd.edu/history_legacy/charles_david_keeling_biography.html So FWIW created a Doodly video that outlines various stuff Catholics should know, but were not taught school http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miFc25jDHMg PS the USA is the only country in the world that has had a multi-decade, multi-billion dollar deny-delay-confuse campaign (MISEDUCATION is a book that documents how climate change denialism was implanted in millions of school children by the fossil fuel industry and religious interests that interpert the Bible as being literally true) https://globalreports.columbia.edu/books/miseducation/ Edited October 7, 2023 by ArciMoto edit link
BarbTherese
I see you joined, AM, in November 2020 but I dont think we have met. You aint really a newbie, but welcome anyway. Let us be people of Hope and Prayer................"More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of" Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen PS Prof Ross Garnaut is a distant relative of mine PPS I am both the Profiles: BarbaraTherese and BarbTherese. I joined Pham on 18th September 2008. A few years back, Pham went down for quite a while. When it eventually came up again, my Profile was stated as BarbTherese. When I eventually checked, I also still had BarbaraTherese, meaning I had two profiles. BarbTherese states joining date as 2012, while BarbaraTherese, my correct User Name, stated 2008 and the original date I joined Pham.🌱

Yup, found the phatmass phorum as a result of CatholicAnswers shutting down its forum and in turn found out about CatholicAnswers in 2018 because I attended their "Faith and Science" conference and was shocked the issue of man made climate change was not on the radar (nor of interest) by the organizers or speakers https://www.catholic.com/audio/cal/cal-8734 Basically I'm not a climate scientist who works in the field, but do have a better than average understanding of the topic simply because it was my dumb luck to have "talents, interests AND exposure" to key figures in various fields which allows me to ponder the issue from a 'strategic' viewpoint In other words, while this is now just happening at a parish my parents use to take me to mass as a young kid https://www.thesoutherncross.org/environment/pastor-blesses-22-trees-donated-by-diocesan-creation-care-ministry/ (for decades) I've been pondering science facts that the average person on the street, has no awareness of (for example)

When Galileo started pushing his ideas, the pope agreed with him and endorsed him. Nor has it been proven that the Earth isn't the center of the universe - as was admitted by Stephen Hawking. It remains a theory. It's impossible to prove, because we have no frame of reference. You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means. I don't think anyone, anywhere is calling it heresy. Idolatry, absolutely. Not heresy. Quote Clearly at least 44% of U.S. Catholics are like sheep following the wrong shepherd, and a very politically-active and unscientific shepherd at that.
