graciandelamadrededios
Taken from the Website of the Poor Clare Federation of Mary Immaculate - History: June 8, 1959 Pope John XXIII granted the petition of the Poor Clare Nuns of St. Colette in the United States of America to form a federation among themselves. The charter member monasteries of the Federation are: Blessed Sacrament Monastery, Cleveland, Ohio (founded from Dusseldorf, Germany, 1877); Monastery of the Immaculate Conception, Chicago, Illinois (founded from Cleveland, 1893); Maria Regina Mater Monastery, Kokomo, Indiana (founded from Chicago, 1959); St. Joseph's Monastery, Aptos, California (founded from Cleveland, 1921); Monastery of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Roswell, New Mexico (founded from Chicago, 1948); Bethlehem Monastery, Newport News, Virginia (founded from Cleveland, 1956), relocated to Barhamsville, Virginia in 2004. But based on this book "Into this land : a centennial history of the Cleveland Poor Clare Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament," Rockford Monastery is a charter member of the Federation of Mary Immaculate but somehow, they remove any mention of Rockford from above website. Mother Mary Veronica Zelinski was the Abbess of Rockford with Sister Mary Helen Kempt was sent as delegate. This is based on the photo taken with all the Abbesses and delegates at the first Federation Chapter in 1961. The following monasteries with the Abbesses and a Sister-Delagate met in the Cleveland Monastery in March of 1958: Chicago, IL Rockford, IL Aptos, CA Newport News, VA Roswell, NM Kokomo, Indiana that was founded that year was included as a charter member. There were 7 charter members during the foundation of said federation. Mother Mary Dorothy of the Holy Spirit (Dorothy Jean) Urschalitz, P.C.C said they left the federation due to some issues that I cannot discuss here. Mother entered Corpus Christy Monastery, Rockford, IL in 1959 after being a junior Professed Franciscan Sister in Tiffin, Ohio, from 1956 to 1959. She was Abbess of Corpus Christi Monastery from 1977-1996. She came to Minooka as Mother Foundress of the Poor Clares of Joliet on October 13, 1995. In August 2012, Mother celebrated her Golden Jubilee. It looks like Rockford is back with the Federation as their monastery is now on the list of member monasteries Taken from the Website of the Poor Clare Federation of Mary Immaculate - Monasteries: ROCKFORD Illinois Poor Clare Colettine Nuns, Corpus Christi Monastery 2111 S. Main Street Rockford, IL 61102-3591 815-963-7343 www.rockfordpoorclares.org However, Annunciation Monastery of Poor Clares is still not listed as members of the federation. This monastery was founded by Mother Mary Dorothy.
