little2add Posted May 27, 2023 Share Posted May 27, 2023 The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marks the signing of the Armistice, on November 11, 1918, signalling the end of the Great War as the guns finally fell silent on the Western Front after more than four years of fighting. Poppies now bloom across some of the deadliest battlefields of World War I. The bright red colour has become a symbol for the blood spilled in the war. It was the British author, H.G. Wells, that coined the expression: "The war that will end war" to describe World War One, which had broken out in Europe in September 1914.
