The federal Equality Act threatens the common good

Over 53 years ago, interracial marriage in the United States has been fully legal in all U.S. states since the 1967 Supreme Court decision, Loving v. Virginia

On June 26, 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down all state bans on same-sex marriage, legalized it in all fifty states, and required states to honor out-of-state same-sex marriage licenses

The respect for marriage law changes nothing in regard to the status of interracial and same-sex marriage, NOTHING.

The so-called “respect for marriage act” is a attack on religious liberty, pure and simple.

According to the Catholic Health Association, Catholic hospitals account for approximately 13 percent of all hospitals in the United States and deliver care to one in six patients hospitalized in the United States each year.

Under this new law, refusing to provide;  the  Catholic  sacrament of Matrimony to same-sex couples or gender affirmation surgery services to eligible adolescents and young adults Catholic affiliated hospitals and health centers may become illegal, by way of cutting off federal funding, etc.

PS: I don’t understand why interracial marriage was included in this new law, as I have never heard of this being a problem in the United States in the year 2022 (or in the last 50 years, for that matter?)

But if both same-sex marriage and interracial marriage were legalized by SCOTUS decisions, couldn't they be overturned in the same way that Roe v. Wade was overturned by Dobbs?

interracial marriage

interracial marriage is not in dispute, in civil law nor in Christian religious law anywhere. Reference to interracial marriage under the respect for marriage act is a straw-dog argument.

:pm:

The sanctity of marriage and the family relation make the cornerstone of society and civilization.

Marriage is a “covenant or partnership of life between a man and woman, which is ordered to the well-being of the spouses and to the procreation and upbringing of children. When validly contracted between two baptized people, marriage is a sacrament”

The grace of sacramental marriage is a fruit of Christ’s holy Cross, the source of all Christian life.

The marriage bond, created only by those who are truly free by God’s law to marry, is an irrevocable covenant which binds the spouses to each other for life, and the sacrament of matrimony conveys the special grace necessary to strengthen them for lifelong fidelity and growth in holiness.

For this reason the Church has always taught the importance of the family as the basic unit of the social fabric of society itself: “Authority, stability, and a life of relationships within the family constitute the foundations for freedom, security, and fraternity within society”

"H.R.8404 - Respect for Marriage Act" is anti-family, anti-Christian and  contains a very real and imminent threat to society.
