Lil Red
Just wondering. I think it's society gone awry. I think we're going back to a time where people (females especially) feel like they have to be perfect looking in order to attract anyone; going back to a time where females feel like all they have to offer is their bodies and not their other assets. Plus, not to mention the fact that I think it's extremely selfish to be doing this and the networks doing this kind of thing instead of spending money on the poor, or something similar. But I like the show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" because it doesn't seem selfish. They pick people who are deserving of a home makeover (drunk driver crashed their house; dad died; parents died; sister taking care of siblings; handicapped people, etc.) What do you think? [/quote] I think it's okay to have cosmetic surgery as in the case of a misaligned jaw and problems with chewing, stuff like that.... But the show really concerned me that people would risk death to be beautiful. One of those ladies could have died. Long before the beauty of those women is forgotten, it's women like Mother Theresa who will stand out. And how many people think Mother Theresa is a babe? IcePrincessKRS
I think they are kind of sad.... I totally agree with you both. I always think about those people's children... will they end up "having" to get cosmetic surgery, too? I know that if I looked like one of my parents and they thought they were so ugly they had to have all that stuff done I wouldnt be feeling very good about myself. Comparing "cosmetic" type surgeries and the motivation behind them is really telling, I think. My husband had to have face surgery for an underbite (they broke and rearranged his jaw), he hated the way he looked when it was done. If it wasn't something he had to have done he'd look pretty different right now. One of my closest friends' mother in law got a nose job because she wanted a more "american looking" nose (she is Korean). She swiped money from her kids' orthodontist funds that she and her husband had saved up to get it done, never told anyone until she got home after the surgery. Now the kids have to wait to get the work done on their teeth. Can we say selfish? Vanity? That stuff makes me sad.
1337 k4th0l1x0r
The sad part is that women will do these surgeries or diets or whatever to attract men or keep a man around. The problem is that the type of men that wouldn't date these women before fall in love with the shell that the woman puts on, not the woman herself. In general, I prefer real women and seeing a variety of women out there. If a woman is really confident in herself and lets her personality show through, that to me is a thing of beauty. Lil Red
i hate it when girls/guys are like "I hate my nose, it's held me back my whole life!" It's not your nose, it's your attitude!! If you have a piss-poor attitude about it, of course your life will reflect that. sheesh!
MC Just
I think they are wrong. People are beautiful no matter what. They are made in the image and likeness of God. This show's calls people ugly and says they can do a better job than God.
homeschoolmom
And what's with all the "talk" shows whose theme is DNA testing to see if some guy is the father of some girl's baby? Why do people go on those shows?

St. Catherine
I did catch one episode of Extreme Makeover that was nice because they help fit this mother that had lost most of her hearing with hearing devices. She was almost totally deaf and her speech was profoundly affected. She had some other stuff done too. She didn't look like a totally different person either. I don't mind surgery unless you are doing for the wrong reasons. Like totally making yourself look like new person that is crazy. Excessive is wrong. Definately don't sacrifice your kids orthodontic money for surgery. I don't think I would ever have plastic surgery unless is was medically necessary or something happened to me that required it. crusader1234
Theres certain cases (like with nikki taylor and stuff like that where they get in car crashes or fires) where people are disfigured and I support that. If a person does it because it would give them more self confidence and they are ugly, then sure. If they are doing it to be attractive, then thats stupid and vain. Gunga_ann
I think it is sick when people want to change the way they look. Why can't people be happy with how they look? I also think it is sad when I see little girls who look like Britney Spears, meaning, having very little coverage on. Clothing indrustries push this look. I can't find any jeans that aren't low low low rise or shirts that go beneath my bellie button.
Quietfire
Yeah, I have the same problem with the jeans Gunga. I just kept my old ones that dont start at my privates, they start at my belly button. There just a bit worn more now. Those new jeans cannot be comfortable. And to be honest, I think they are soooooooooooo unattractive. Peace. I remember catching an episode once where the wife was announcing to her husband that she was cheating on him and the guy said something like, "I thought you were bringing me on this show to tell me some good news."
