sr.christinaosf
Does anyone know if it is permissible to use readings/Mass propers from a Mass at Christmas that does not correspond to the time of day? For example, Christmas morning at 9 a.m., can readings, etc. from midnight Mass be used? I have someone who wants to do this and I don't know if it's legit. Thanks. chrysostom
*Caveat - not liturgy or documents knowledgable* It's like someone wanting to do the Tuesday readings at Mass on a Monday. Yes, no specific rule (that I am aware of - I might be missing this) against doing that, because why would there need to be? It's built into the specification of the time. AveMariaPurissima
At the beginning of the readings for the Christmas vigil Mass. my missalette from last year says: Quote These readings are used at Mass celebrated on the evening of December 24, either before or after Evening Prayer I of the Nativity. The readings that follow may also be used for Masses on Christmas Day, with the option of choosing from one or another of the three sets of readings according to the pastoral needs of each assembly. I also found this: https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/library/christmas-vigil-masses-options-on-readings-4505 Quote Regarding readings: A rubric in the lectionary for Christmas indicates that it is permitted to choose among the readings for the three Masses for Christmas Day, depending on pastoral needs. This choice must respect the proper liturgical order of: Old Testament, psalm, epistle and Gospel. Notably, the rubric appears in the lectionary only after the readings of the vigil Mass and refers only to the three Christmas Day Masses (Midnight, dawn and during the day). It would appear, therefore, that the readings for the vigil Mass fall outside the possibility for selection.

Yes, you can use any of the Christmas readings at any of the Christmas Masses. Merry Christmas!
