And Padre Pio wasn't perfect, either.

The double standards that Padre Pio seemed to have for women that he didn't have for men certainly aren't admirable nor should one aspire to them.

Really?? What sort of standards did he have for women and where did you get this information from?

Well, for starters, he demanded that a sign saying this be posted outside the confessional:

"By Padre Pio’s explicit wish, women must enter his confessional wearing skirts at least eight inches below the knees. It is forbidden to borrow longer dresses in church and to wear them for the confessional.”

Oh, he had some standards for men, too, but not nearly as many as he had for women.  He seemed obsessed about women's clothing to the point of even denying women the Sacrament of Reconciliation simply because of the clothes that they were wearing--clothes that were appropriate by any other standard in society at that time.  This information is easily searchable on the internet.  In fact, I haven't run into any sources that deny it.

Well I dunno about all that. Look, if Peace takes off all his clothes and walks down the street women are gonna swoon and have sinful thoughts. I know this. You know this. That being the case, I think I would bear some (although not the primary) responsibility by putting said women in a position where they are tempted to sin. I am simply that irresistible.

That being said, I have not seen this tank-top photo. Nor do I have any desire to. But I don't think that a tank-top or a swimsuit by itself is crossing the line. I don't think the Lord requires that every woman jump in the pool wearing a pair of jeans and a baggy sweatshirt just because the pool-boy may be a horndog.

So I'd say you are right in this particular instance, but the general principle you drew goes a bit too far.

This is the best reply ever!!  I can't say that I've seen too many naked men walking down the street, although it has happened a few times.  Up until now, I've only ever thought:  "Oh, that poor man--something is obviously wrong with him.  I hope he's OK."  No swooning, no sinful thoughts.  Of course, to my knowledge, I've never seen Peace walking down the street naked, so maybe my response will be different?  I don't know, though...I'm still liable to just shake my head and wonder if maybe I should call the psychiatric hotline number for you.

Well it didn't take long for this to get a little nasty.

Saint Padre Pio and Blessed Chiara Luce Badano pray for us!

Indeed.

Perhaps if we have faith in Christ, we should have faith in His Church as it comes to Blessed Chiara and us all.
