ladybug
Can you guys do a very soft hip hop album (not too much slang, just normal words) and do your voice and beat over traditional Gregorian chant? Something soothing that doesn't rattle people's cage? Don't use words like dope, etc...some of us find that offensive.... and some of the instruments could be like organs and the chimes that you hear when the priest holds up the eucharist? The beat and tone of voice I'm thinking about is like LL Cool J's song "I need love" only with Godly lyrics. The New Age group Enigma does something similar with beat over catholic sounding chant, only that group is weird and into occult stuff. They don't rap, but they add a sort of dance beat. Can you guys do this? I have some lyrics I wrote years ago. Here is one. Journey At Midnight Sailing, drifting, tossed about Stars and moonbeams blotted out Fog commencing fearful dreams Nothing is really as it seems... Saint Elmo's fire luminousity Claims the mast and calms the sea From east to west turns right around Back to realms where angels sound... And fish swim in schools of seven With waters flowing back to heaven Upon the horizon an eagle takes flight No more fear in the valley of night
flip
that might be taking "sacred" music and transforming into something "not sacred" i dont know...what does phatmass think?

I didn't think we "rattled" people's cages with music about the love of God and His Church. 2. Why don't YOU do an album like that? 3. Enigma? Their sound is NOT AT ALL HIP HOP. maxk
Some of Father Stan Fortuna's stuff is just like your asking for: Songs like "Psalm 51", "Lord Have Mercy", "Urban Worship" and "F.A.M.I.L.Y." These are great songs and they're pretty soft.
Thy Geekdom Come
That would be sweet. There is a group that does this with soft rock (like "Tears In Heaven" by Eric Clapton).
Enda
that might be taking "sacred" music and transforming into something "not sacred" i dont know...what does phatmass think?
I don't think it is. It's just taking something old, and modernizing it. I'm not a praticulary big fan of rap myself, but I do like it when it's mixed with other, more classical instruments like those found in orcacharas(sp). I'd probably buy it. inDEED, chill out, man. Ladybug was just making a suggestion. Show some Christian charity.
The part about God and his church does not rattle people's cage. I did not say that. I'm talking about doing something a little more meditative and less edgy. Some people get headaches with edgy rap. For those who like the edgy rap....that is fine, but you can do a variety of styles of rap and make more sales to support your mission. Target an album to 30 somethings like me who lived through the first years of hip hop before it got so edgy. I'm from the old skool, not the new. Your mission is about raising money to help the church, right? It's not about raising money for hip hop. The reason I don't do create an album is, I don't have the means, I don't have the money, I don't have the musical talent or rap skills. I was going to let you guys have my lyrics for free if you needed them. These were actually just poems I wrote. I offered a part of my heart and soul to you guys, and you trampel all over it. If you can't use em, NO BIG DEAL. I think I'll stop trying to help or give ideas. I'm obviously not liked here for some reason. I understand I don't belong in your hip hop clique...so I'll go on my way. Have fun winning converts.
inDEED
This is where I get frustrated... Many people that may surf these phorums don't necessarily understand our music...our methods...our approach... And, seeing as how this is probably your FIRST post regarding our efforts in the muzik forum, I don't appreciate your suggestion on altering our approach... Rather than suggest that words like "dope" or the slang we might use is offensive and then suggesting that we do something that might better fit your style, why not ask us why we do what we do? Why not attempt to better understand our love for HIP HOP and why we use words like, "dope"? I apologize if you were made the target of my frustration...for that - I really am sorry... But I'm not a huge fan of people who immediatly reject hip hop in the sphere of the Church when they might not have even sought to understand why we use it... You feel me? RemnantRules
after reading this i feel that there was just mis-communication between the two of you. I see where both of you are coming from, and though i can see where Ladybug is coming from i think she was WAY to quick to Judge and close off this thread! InDeed I totally feeling for ya dawg about your great passion for this Hip-Hop and this site, but you can't get frustrated. We must talk them down and calmly explain what's up with Phatmass. I mean i know where your coming from and it seems most everybody else here knows where your coming from but obviously this person doesn't so you have to adapt and work with that. Hope this helps, and if not oh well i tried. Thank you InDeed and sending love right back at ya! God Bless Jason Gregory

I felt like you were annoyed with me and didn't like me. If you guys can use anything in those lyrics...take them. If you wanna change them up or even steal ideas from them go ahead. I probably will never publish them, and even if I did I probably would not make any money. My Journey at Midnight song is about that dark place we find ourselves in where there is no place else to go but wait for God. (the valley like in the 23rd psalm) But, my version is not very 'hip'. It needs to be manipulated by some young folks. I'm losing my connection to what the young kids like. I don't even understand yalls slang anymore. (It will happen to you too one day..... ;-) Me, I think I'm still stuck in the 70's. I'm still "rockin to the rhythm of the boogety bee"

inDEED
ladybug...I appreciate you coming back to this thread... I don't expect everyone to love hip hop, rock, emo, country, whatever - but I do expect people to respect each others' ministries... ladybug...anytime you're willing to drop some more of your poetry in this phorum or give us feedback on ANYTHING we do, please do so! Remnant...you're the ISH, bro...thank you for holding me accountable to the teachings of Christ... Peace... P.S. Flip IS RETRO.
